Or you can use LibreELEC with specific AMlogic processors/boxes or Apple 4K TV running MRMC (Kodi fork).

I'm sitting on my 5th gen NUC until a new Intel NUC supports HDR on Linux. I plan to buy a new 4K HDR TV very soon and will use an Apple 4K TV for UHD and my old NUC with LibreELEC for everything else.

It is a shame that x86 Linux has always been far behind in media center usage.
I got a Shield which can do HDR but I find image quality not as good as Linux NUC.

On last 2-3 builds after installing it seems to reset my skin back to default and my settings.
Anyone else have this issue?

Success. From a short test #0321 works HW accelerated with Radeon RX 550 and AMD C-60/HD 6290. The RX 550 decodes 4k HEVC10 video as expected.

Only when playing MPEG2 SD there are many artifacts on both platforms.

You can disable mpeg2 for VAAPI. So then post a Debug Log / screenshot?

RE: LibreELEC Testbuilds for x86_64 (Kodi 18.0) - Aenima99x - 2018-03-24

@Milhouse  Is it possible to get an img file for the newest build? I just got a NUC7CJYH (Gemini Lake with UHD600 graphics) and can't do an upgrade becuase the old 8.2.4 image doesn't include the video drivers. I did get 8.2.4 installed but the boot process hangs at the xorg failure so there's no way for me to ssh in and wget your newest build to the update folder. Thanks.

EDIT - NM.....forgot all about the SMB shares doh. I got the upgrade copied over and setting it up now.

The easiest solution is to write the 8.2.4 img to a USB, then extract the target/KERNEL and target/SYSTEM files from the latest #0323 tar (7zip on Windows includes tar support) and copy the two files into the root of the USB, overwriting the old 8.2.4 files of the same name. Voila, a LibreELEC 9.0 USB memory stick.

Note that if you add ssh to the kernel command line then ssh will be enabled automatically even when xorg and Kodi fail to start, so that's another possible solution.

Thanks for the quick response Milhouse! See my edit.

Great. Samba I don't think will be enabled unless you've managed to complete the Setup Wizard, so presumably you were able to get that far at some stage. Don't forget to enable ssh (I recommend adding a public key, then disabling password) as ssh is always useful when testing these builds.

So is #0323 working successfully with Gemini Lake?

RE: LibreELEC Testbuilds for x86_64 (Kodi 18.0) - Aenima99x - 2018-03-24

I never even got to the LE GUI, but Samba did load so I lucked out there. So far the build seems good, just finished up my Emby sync and digging into more now. Thanks
