Can you please elaborate?
Your understanding is wrong. Tonemap and HDR -> SDR conversion was there for months now. New is an option to influence the overall "brightness".
Tonemap - off, Test-2160p.hevc.hdr.dts-hd.ma.mkv work fine.
And Tonemap on? And value set to 1.0? Try also: LG NASA HDR Demo.mp4 which is publically available.

Before I will get home today, I have LG OLED and Intel NUCi3 7th Gen, do I need to configure anything in the Video Settings before trying to play HDR movie?

 HDR wont work.
Only HDR > SDR conversion is working.

The file you play is full of errors. Play something known not to be broken, please.

Hi @Milhouse

would it be possible to do a "test" release with Kernel 4.17? I read that it implements HDCP.
Would this kernel enable 1080p streams in Kodi for Netflix and Amazon? See commits from 2018.01.08 https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/log/?id=fdddd08c4875db0799defd8cad318a68f564e7e5&qt=grep&q=seanpaul%40chromium.org
