Best file-system for 3TB hard-drive - smasha - 2017-05-26

What's the best file-system for a 3TB (spinning disk) hard-drive on an Android-TV?

If it makes a difference, this is a Minix U9-H.

Thanks...

Will it be plugged into anything else?
FWIW I use NTFS on all my external drives, just because it works in windows, open/libreELEC, android, other linux and they won't be plugged into anything else.

I use Linux for just about everything. I think my flatmate uses Apple.

So I think ext3, ext4, and NTFS are in the lead. My flatmate can deal with a fat32 flash-drive, or SAMBA if it's supported, and if/when I figure that out.

I might be wrong, but I'm not sure ext3/4 will be mounted by default. IIRC android didn't see my libreelec storage (ext4) partition on my amlogic S905 boxes until I messed about a bit. Not that that's a show-stopper, more a minor inconvenience. I guess SAMBA would work with an app (andsmb, sambadroid, that sort of thing).

The FAT32 File System has a 4GB file size limit.

Apple's OSX will not work out of the gate with a NTFS file system for transferring files.

That leaves exFat as the only all rounder File system to use.

If its Windows / Android only use NTFS.
