Files not added to library - dertyp0815 - 2022-02-22

Hi all,

a more precise follow-up of a previous problem:

I have a rather big music collection, and some files - due to the number of files it would be endless work to even figure out which ones - are not added to the library. They are definitely tagged, same format (m4a) as the others, nothing special, but are accessible only when browsing the source directly in "Files".

In the Files-menu again, there is no context option to add to the library for individual subfolders/files, just for the root folder. So.. is there an addon that can solve the issue maybe or what else may have gone wrong?

Thanks!

There should be an option "Scan item to library". Use it to scan folders into the library

This option is available only for the root folder, not for subfolders. And repeating the root folder scan like this doesn't change anything.

No it is available at all levels. It is just not available on the actual file, only the folders.

If you provide a Debug Log which captures a music library scan, we might see what the problem is. Let us know the name of a few of the files that are not scanning when you provide the log.

It's definitely not available for subfolders in my installation. Here, he context menu shows only "add to favourites", "add to playlist", "play next" and "play". Same in all skins. Something wrong in the settings maybe?

Make sure you are definitely in the Files view which give a context menu of

If you have a context menu like below then you are in one of the Library views.

If you are indeed seeing something different, then post a screenshot of what you see if you are using the Estuary skin.

This is what I get - same in all skins - so basically your menu minus the bottom two items:

Help please Sad

Try using the Estuary skin. Skins can change the context menus displayed, I don't know what skin you are using but it does not look like Estuary.

The menu is identical throughout all skins, as mentioned:

How is your music organised?

Do you have the song files in album folders, or are all the songs loose in the folders shown in your screenshot- Classical, Compilations etc?

Both, mostly album folders. I can't recognize a connection, though. Some of the non-recognized songs are in album folders e.g.

It's a portable Kodi installation. Could that be the reason? If skins can modify menu entries, there must be a way to change them back?

RE: Files not added to library - DaveBlake - 2022-02-27

No portable mode will make no difference. Menus are not stored in that way, a specific skin can change what menu items it shows make its own etc. You have ruled out skin as the issue by using Esutary (always good to use defualt skin when having an issue).

Is the root folder the only music source you have added?  Where is that located - locally, network etc.? Perhaps you can you post your sources.xml file @dertyp0815 it is found in the userdata folder, that would answer those questions.

Perhaps it is a folder permissions issue? Also have not had a debug log from you so no idea what version of Kodi you are using, if it is an old versions, or a hacked version or has non-official addons etc. that could cause this strange behaviour. Maybe provide a debug log to rule those out.

I even wonder if it is a language file issue causing missing context menu items, try setting it into English and Estuary.

The root folder is the only source. It's on the same HD within the Kodi media folder, so to be accessible through the special:// syntax. Version is the latest 19.3. Also switching to English won't make a difference. Here is the music-section of sources.xml:

<music>
        <default pathversion="1"></default>
        <source>
            <name>Musik</name>
            <path pathversion="1">special://xbmc/media/Musik/</path>
            <allowsharing>true</allowsharing>
        </source>
    </music>
