- Changed autostart method to start from init.d. Thanks to bobb0 and Luigi

How would one go about changing the startup to this if I've already used the old method?

It can perform the first function with SPDIF if the refresh rate it's really close to optimal, otherwise it has to drop packets and that can be bad. It can't perform the second function with SPDIF, as packets dropped would be unacceptable.

bobo1on1 Wrote:Spdif is not the problem, the problem is you can't resample and have ac3/dts passthrough.
Pcm over spdif can still be resampled, it just limits you to 2 channel sound.

Yes, I am aware (I mentioned I tried), but still didn't catch the point about analog out yet.
I cannot imagine that anyone willing to use the mobo's analog out in a decent htpc setup.

cd $home
rm .bash_profile
rm .xsession
sudo nano /etc/event.d/tty2
change it to
Code:
respawn

exec /sbin/getty 38400 tty2

Then follow the steps from the guide.

I've added lines to .xsession for starting drivers for my Xbox 360-pads.
If I leave them and remove all other lines in the file it should still load things correctly if I follow the guide, right?

No, in this case you have to tweak runXBMC.sh

Ok. Thanks.

Hey SG, I too am running xboxdrv for the xbox360 pads. I choose to run xboxdrv using the daemon script that is included with the source package. In my /etc/init.d I have a xbox drv file with the following:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides:       xboxdrv
# Required-Start: $remote_fs
# Required-Stop: $remote_fs
# Default-Start:  2 3 5
# Default-Stop:
# Description:    Loading xboxdrv (userspace) joystick driver
### END INIT INFO

/usr/local/bin/xboxdrv-daemon.py -x /usr/local/bin/xboxdrv -- --deadzone 6000 --dpad-as-button -D &
exit 0

And in /etc/rc2.d I added a link to the startup script:
Code:
sudo ln -s ../init.d/xboxdrv S93xboxdrv

Using the daemon script ensures that a new instance of xboxdrv is run if you plug/unplug the xbox360 controller. Now, we only have to get xbmc to recognize controller changes on the fly.

How can i avoid visible console noise before xbmc start? between usplash and xbmc always console visible. I try this fix but not working Smile

I took some lines from Jaunty gdm patch:

You might want to bump this: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=47084
topic up.

If we reach the critical mass, somebody may pay attention who knows a fix for this.... Smile

One thing which stopped me from using this great "STEP BY STEP HOW TO" was that someone decided to skip one step. It's so damn frustraiting that someone assumed that any newbie know how to use SSH application to log in remotely from desktop.. Because of things like that it's so damn hard to use any of those great linux stuff. Thanks in advance for all tips and congratulations on great job. Keep it up!

Is this really that difficult? Shocked

Well maybe it's not for you, but i don't even know where to start. Should i connect pc and htpc with network cable, should i use router for this, do i need htpc ip address if so, where can i get it from etc.. As i said, don't assume that we all know everything.

Use your existing wired/wireless network and type ifconfig to see your ip address in Ubuntu. Then download putty, launch it and enter that ip there.

It`s all good now thanks to olympia..
Reinstallation of SSH on hardy solved my connection problems.
Thanks.

Now I've managed to set up the start according to the updated wiki and I've compiled and updated to the latest SVN r18681M.

The only problem I have now is that every time I push the remotes volume buttons in a movie or a song xbmc restarts. It works when I'm not playing anything. Any Idea why?
