Any chance of getting PVRINPUT support working. At the moment channels are working OK except for PVRINPUT ones.

The channels.conf for the
selected channels looks like this:

21-WHA;21 WHA fcc:163250TongueVRINPUT|TV|NTSCTongue:0:301:300:0:0:12021:1:2608:0
22-CSPAN;CSPAN:169250TongueVRINPUT|TV|NTSCTongue:0:301:300:0:0:12022:1:2704:0
23-Nickelodeon;NIK:217250TongueVRINPUT|TV|NTSCTongue:0:301:300:0:0:12023:1:3472:0
24-DisneyChannel;DISN:223250TongueVRINPUT|TV|NTSCTongue:0:301:300:0:0:12024:1:3568:0
25-ABC Family:229250TongueVRINPUT|TV|NTSCTongue:0:301:300:0:0:12025:1:3664:0

With streamdev giving me:

http://oac.oaci.org:3000/PES/P-1-2608-12021.vdr

The PVR thing on XBMC sits for a while waiting then says "Channel
Unavailable", so I'm guessing it's asking for the wrong thing. It does
find the EPG for the channel though.

However, the old style PVRINPUT channel sometimes works..

3-WREX;13 WREX fcc:61250:I0C0:C:0:301:300:305:A1:12003:1:976:0
4-WTVO;17 WTVO fcc:67250:I0C0:C:0:301:300:305:A1:12004:1:1072:0
5-WIFR;23 WIFR fcc:77250:I0C0:C:0:301:300:305:A1:12005:1:1232:0

There's also:

FM 94.5MHz-WJCH;Religious:94500TongueVRINPUT|RADIOTongue:0:0:300:305:0:1424:0:0:0

And:

Does anyone a problem with playing the recording from vdr? I can see them, but when I start to play, but they are not played correctly. Strange sound and no video. Outside xbmc it works ok. Do you have such experience?

- rdoac - 2009-09-21

Can we make the timeout configurable? I have channels that take more than 5 seconds to start streaming. XBMC Normally gives up and tells me Channel Unavailable. I have two IPTV channels that take 35 seconds to start streaming.

Also, if there is nothing in the EPG, it appears to create a seg fault.

Just wanted to say that there are some errors in language/English/strings.xml in latest SVN that makes xbmc crash.

Does anyone else have issues when tuning channels?

Sometimes I pick a channel from the list and XBMC/VDR tunes to the channel below it in the list (or sometime + 2)
It seems quite random, I've had this issue since first testing the PVR branch.. even re-installed since then and now using SVN from about 2 weeks ago and still have the same problem Confused
I can sometimes solve the problem by stopping XBMC, deleting MyTV1.db from the userdata/Database folder.. which also solves the problem where lots of channels show as 'no information available' in the epg.

Am I missing an extra plugin or something ??

While VDR is running it's continuously searching for new channels, adjusting pids of existing channels etc, depending on the UpdateChannels setting in setup.conf. This caused many problems for me, I think VDR's channel scanning is not working as it should be, at least not with dvb-c signal where I live.

If you have a channels.conf list that you're satisfied with, disable UpdateChannels or set it to channelnames/pids only (2). That solved all my problems with channel not available, duplicates and switching to channel+1.

- Swifty - 2009-09-29

Yeh I noticed that problem first off as even though my channels were working it kept changing the tuning details and in turn altering the channel order.
I disabled UpdateChannels (set it to 0) which solved that, but I still get the channel +1 problem.. it seems to occur when a channel above it in the list has 'no information available'

Most likely a problem with channels.conf. I had no EPG info on channels for which the NID wasn't correctly detected.

Looks like the pvr-testing branch is a little broken due to the big linux-port merge ;-). I have problems compiling guilib. I've already seen fixes on this for the main tree so I guess they'll be added to pvr-testing too one of these days...

Sorry ahead of time for not spending the time to test VDR with XBMC to answer my below question.

How close is VDR + XBMC as a working stable solution?
Is there more skin support for the live TV or is it limited to PM3?

I've heard that VDR and XBMC plan to integrate in the future, and if this becomes reality that would be great.

XBMC is great for all media center tasks except live TV integration. VDR I believe is the king for what XBMC misses.

I hope to get the free time in the next few months to play around with the two. I've used MediaPortal to deliver nice media skins and library with good live tv support in the past, but just really enjoy xbmc stability and user friendlessness once setup. Currently I have Ubuntu and XBMC on my 3 pc's around the house, but my attempts to get VDR working with DVB-s have failed so far, and it's me not the product Smile

Any experiences how this is progressing would be great.

Thanks again

Hi,

There are more and more people starting to build vdr-Packages in their Launchpad PPAs which makes it easier for newbees to install VDR+XBMC-PVR-Testing on Ubuntu. The latest news is that gda (from vdr-portal.de) has now started to work on VDR 1.7.9 packages + plugins in one of his PPA's.

Based on my own experience, I would like to recommend to newbees to use the following PPA's (saying this, I don't want to underestimate the work of other people maintaing their PPA's):

For Ubuntu Jaunty you have the following options:

* XBMC-enabled VDR 1.6 + Plugins from gda's PPA (https://launchpad.net/~gda-dachsweb/+archive/vdr)
* XBMC-PVR-Testing for Jaunty from my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~henningpingel/+archive/xbmc)

For Ubuntu Karmic you have the following options:

* Brand new (untested) XBMC-enabled VDR 1.7.9 packages + Plugins from gda's other PPA (https://launchpad.net/~gda-dachsweb/+archive/vdr-devel)
* XBMC-PVR-Testing for Karmic from my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~henningpingel/+archive/xbmc)

Cheers,
hepi

Hi Henning,

Firstly thanks for your work on the XBMC PVR PPA, I am currently using your package and its been working great for over a month in conjunction with Mirak's VDR PPA.

I only ever run in to two issues, I wonder if you see these too or if I'm missing another package somewhere ??

1) Can't replay recordings at a remote XBMC client (same package as on VDR server) but plays fine through XBMC on the VDR server.
2) Can't seem to get any channel icons working in the guide, no matter what image format / naming convention I use..

Apart from that this is a beatiful solution to tv through XBMC Smile

Hi, I have never tried to get the channel icons to work in XBMC (currently, the most time that I spend on XBMC is spent on purley building it...). Maybe this will help you regarding the channel icons:
* http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=87508
* http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=89600
(In German, channel icons = Senderlogos. Sorry, no time to translate further details)

The replay of recordings currently suffers from at least two bugs:
* http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/7307
* http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?postid=829384#post829384

Cheers,
hepi

Thank you for your reply hepi,
A light bulb just turned on regarding the channel logos... when I was reading the post you linked I remember assigning them via the context menu in a very old build!
When I tested the latest version I just set the icon folder and wondered why they didn't pick up.. that's probably why ! Big Grin

Will be keeping an eye on that trac ticket which hopefully will solve the recording problems.
In the mean time I've just created a symbolic link to /var/lib/video and they seem to play ok when launching the .ts files directly..

Keep up the great work with your builds, us lesser humans really appreciate your work Laugh

-Edit : Hmm.. seems I spoke too soon about the icons, it is in the context menu where you assign the logo but it doesn't appear to save the choice once selected Sad
If anyone has any luck then let me know, I'm going to start playing around with different file formats and sizes in a hope I can get it working.

Hi Hepi.
I installed your xbmc packages.
I compiled by myself vdr 1.7.9, with streamdev plugin. In xbmc settings I can see the vdr server, but I always get an error message: connection lost !
Have I to compile the streamdev plugins with the patches described at the first post of this thread?
Am I missing something?

- Swifty - 2009-10-11

@dongioia;
Have you adjusted the svdrphosts.conf & streamdevhosts.conf at /etc/vdr(/plugins) ?
To allow remote access you will need to enter an IP or network range that is allowed access.
