gotoman00 Wrote:downloaded newest bios few days ago... cpu is an amd 5600+

my question is though, will adding this patch and recompiling help me at all with my (now minor) stuttering, or is this for a totally unrelated problem

i mount all my samba shares from my window machine with cifs, so that's how it's sourced... hardwired, no wifi

as far as my hardware, posted the board at the top, amd 5600+ cpu, 2 gigs of ddr2 gskill ram running at 800 (could be running 1066 with an AM2+ chip, alas it is not one), default configs in bios

It may well help minor stuttering, that is what it was there for, I thought you said killa was still dropping like crazy though, which is obviously wrong.

Is your memory running dual channel? Can you additionally try running killa locally (ie not over cifs/smb)

well that killa sample was stuttering pretty bad after about 5 seconds, i wouldn't say THAT was minor... the apple one didn't seem AS bad though.... i can try running both locally, and my memory is running dual channel... i will also post both those logs afterwards

Could you try adding nopat to your kernel boot command line?

motd2k Wrote:Could you try adding nopat to your kernel boot command line?

i will try that as well as the other suggestions mentioned and get back to you shortly

edit: i thought pat was disabled as default in debian?

oh and btw haggy like i said your pci=nomsi in the kernel boot worked, however it seems to hang on reboot now, go figure

- gotoman00 - 2009-03-31

ok so here's the deal, added nopat to the kernel boot command line, running in 1080i, with VDPAU selected and Adjust refresh rate along with it.... played the killasample locally... lots of stuttering... when i played that video downloaded from apple i didn't notice much improvement and te sound cut out frequently (not using hdmi for sound using onboard optical and have no problems with that usually) here are the log files you request:

http://halo.anarchic-x.net/gotoman/xbmc.log

http://halo.anarchic-x.net/gotoman/nvidia-bug-report.log

another question though about that patch... got the newest svn opened the file up but forgive my noobness how do i jump to line 941? im using nano and you can search but there are plenty of instances of outputSurface in there....

- motd2k - 2009-03-31

search for

PHP Code:
vdp_st vdp_presentation_queue_display(vdp_flip_queue

its the line below that one...

- Zeron - 2009-03-31

Crtl + _ will jump to a psecific line in nano

- gotoman00 - 2009-03-31

ok... added that modification and going to compile... hope those logs help you figure out what the deal is with my VDPAU and stuttering... i want my dark knight rip looking crystal Big Grin

edit:

ok i dont know what the deal is now... initially after installing those new drivers and enabling vdpau all my videos except for dark knight were playing fine.... but now they are choppy once again... i believe the only thing that was changed since then was the boot kernel comand for nopat... should i remove that now?

also another thing i noticed... at 1920x1080 my video freq stays around 60 but if i choose 1080i it jumps down to 29-30

- motd2k - 2009-03-31

PHP Code:
17:00:40 T:2790235024 M:1222717440  NOTICE:  fps47.916668pwidth1920pheight1080dwidth1920dheight1080
17
:00:40 T:2790235024 M:1222717440   DEBUGOutputPicture change configuration1920x1080framerate47.92

this strikes me as wrong... could you try "killall pulse" before starting XBMC?

- gotoman00 - 2009-03-31

can i just add that to my rc.local then, my xbmc starts at boot

if nopat didnt help, then remove it. select auto as the renderer, and auto as the resolution (for now at least) this will make it run vdpau when possible, and also make it run windowed.

if i choose auto for the resolution, it gives me 1080i which then i can only get about 20hz on

- motd2k - 2009-03-31

bizarre, but okay...

let me know how the rest goes

- gotoman00 - 2009-03-31

alright so here's the update.... as i said if i pick auto or 1080i it gives me 1080i with around 20-30hz.... if i pick 1920x1080 then i get 60....

so i picked 1920x1080, and auto for my video render, removed the nopat from my kernel command line, added killall pulse to my rc.local, and rebooted....

replayed my 1080p files, they worked again (except for batman of course, still some stuttering).... tried the killa sample, while it still stuttered after about 5 seconds or so, it was still way better than before... same with the apple file...

so here are my updated log files

http://halo.anarchic-x.net/gotoman/xbmc.log

http://halo.anarchic-x.net/gotoman/nvidia-bug-report.log

edit: alright this seems real inconsistent however, xbmc froze playing a file so i restarted it and im getting the stuttering for all of my files again.... even after a reboot same thing... what the hell?

- gotoman00 - 2009-04-01

so any idea why it was working beautifully then all of a sudden decided to be a dirty whore? i even noticed that the gui itself seemed a little snappier when everything was working properly... like i said i set it at 1920x1080, auto render, took the nopat out of my kernel boot and put killall pulse in my rc.local... rebooted, worked exceptionally well (except for the batman and the killasample).... then after picking a few vids it froze, had to restart and back to vdpau not working properly at all... what givesHuh

Blush

edit: also tried compiling with that fix, still same results, choppy vdpau even at 720p again Sad
