Alas XBMC won't run on virtual machines (I just found out after having set up an XP on VirtualBox, serves me right for not doing the research), so my plans for testing it are scuppered as I am without a spare machine to test on.

I've had a very quick play with it and can't get many streams to work actually. This may be due to my VPN being quite slow tonight though (I can barely watch iplayer on my laptop either - constantly buffering).
Many times, particularly with the "Watch Live" options instead of catchup, I get told that playing has failed, and to "look in the log file"
I enabled extra debugging info in Settings, but can't for the life of me figure out where the log file is
Any clues?Thanks for your work exobuzz. Being able to select streams and bitrates will help me a lot.

I 've updated to the builds of XBMC and the plugin posted, but I can't get any of the catch up streams to work. They play for around a minute and then stop. I can send you the log file if you like, you'll just need to tell me where I can find it :-).

The failure mode you're describing sounds like SWF Verification failure.

Please do post a log. I am using my build currently and it is working fine for me with my updated iplayer plugin. Ive not tested any live streams though. Some plugin code might need to be tweaked for them.

The Iplayer changes look good to me. Don't use an XBOX though so can't test the build.

It is unable to write the swfinfo file
19:49:38 M: 21479424 ERROR: RTMP_HashSWF: couldn't open Q:\UserData\cache\.swfinfo for writing, errno 2 (No such file or directory)
Perhaps I should check if that folder exists and make it. can you check on your system ? Perhaps I had assumed everyone had that folder.

Is there a formal route or is it at all possible get xbmc and/or iplayer plugin put on the approved client list which adobe/bbc obviously have. This would eliminate the need for workarounds and potentially illegal fixes. Please correct if i'm wrong but previously apart from not using an approved client xbmc had'nt done anything wrong. How come the likes of Wii, Ps3, freesat etc all can have iplayer clients?

Please can you redownload the xbmc zip and try it. I changed the folder location for the .swfinfo to the UserData folder. I could have checked for the cache folder and made it if it doesn't exist, but after a curry and now 6 beers, I don't have the stamina. ;-)
UserData I guess is an ok place anyway I guess.
PS. Only on demand stuff is working (tested) right now. I have yet to sort out/look at the live streams (They may or may not work). Shouldn't be a hard fix though if they don't work.

hi there ive tried about 8 builds and every version of the iplayer plugin you've made but i just cant get it to work, but i found this pc app iplayer downloader and it works by pretending to be a iphone and it downloads it in mp4 to wherever you tell it to, is there anychance of getting a plugin which works like the iplayer downloader for xbox on xbmc

It's possible but not something I'm that interested in doing. I'm happy to look at why this doesn't work for you though. Please post your xbmc.log from the xbmc folder.

Thanks exobuzz for the updated XBMC build. I've copied it over to my Xbox and now the catch up streams are working perfectly. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for all your work on this.

I've been watching this post with great interest and have now lost count of the number of times I've loaded updated XMBC builds and iplayer to my xbox. I'm pleased to report that these latest builds work with no problems. (at least until the BBC change the iplayer system again). Thanks again keep up the good work.
