MC 3.405 released - StormyKnight - 2011-06-06

MC 3.405 released

Due to resolving a major issue with data returned from tvdb often being zipped, we have updated MC to handle that situation. As such we have brought this weekly release out early....Smile

Fixes
TV
* GZIP decoding has now been added. It was found that in perhaps 30% of cases, TVDB would return the XML data zipped. So now we check for that & decode as necessary. The decode method is also noted in the log.
* Fixed Multiepisode where not being show in the TVShow tree
* TVShow & relevant Season are now coloured blue for missing episodes
* Change behaviour of MC when it finds a missing TVShow - before it would perminately change the TV cache meaning that a rebuild was required to resolve the issue. Now MC shows onscreen that it can't find the show, but doesn't change the cache, so if the fact the the show was missing was because the show is stored on an external medium & that medium was turned off, simply turning it back on & waiting for it to become avaialble, would allow MC to see it again.

New Features
* Add Progress Splash screen to show progress during Movie Rebuild

Debug Additions
* Added exception catch for invalid Movie nfo's during rebuild
* Checkbox to show returned data from TVDB during a scrape

@AaronD, the prefered method for nfo's is that they be named the same as the movie as that is how XBMC prefers it also. MC relies on the connection between the movie's filename & the nfo's filename to be the same.

In saying that there is an option in the Movie preferences advanced to output the nfo as movie.nfo....

I would assume that you are using folders as well so do you have the use folder names for scraping selected in the movie preferences?

Do you need your nfo's saved as movie.nfo? If not I would run a file renamer program over your data & get it to rename the movie.nfo's to be the same as the actual movie title.

@Pete7, um...no it seems not.....lets put it on the list of to-do's!

http://mediacompanion.codeplex.com/workitem/55

We can recrape individual tags & they don't effect the other tags in the file so when we add the ability to rescrape the year it should leave the genres well alone..

Cheers

New TV Shows - rendered - 2011-06-07

Hi,

Great application! Can somebody share some insight with regards to new TV Shows?

When I have a new TV Show in my TV Show root does this mean that MC will pick it up immediately or must I manually add it? Atm it isn't doing it automatically. I am also using the command-line function and scanning for new movies and TV Shows - does this also pick up new TV Shows that haven't been added yet or just new episodes? Is there a way to make it scan new TV Shows?

Thanks for the help.

- philneko - 2011-06-07

If you add a new TV Show, you can go to "TV Shows" drop down then "Check Roots for New TV Shows" and it will scrape the new show/s

Thanks that works. Do you know how to do this through the command-line?

- StormyKnight - 2011-06-08

You cannot add new tvshows via the commandline, since it does require you to verify that the correct show has been detected.

However you can search for & add new episodes....

Some information is in the Codeplex site Media Companion documentation ...

any reason why the option to use movie.nfo, movie.tbn, fanart.jpg stops MC seeing the data and rescanning.

I just updated from 3.400 to 3.405b and I had all my nfo, tbn's etc stored from my previous MC and when adding my movies folder to MC 3.405b it recognised everything perfectly, but then i select to scan for a new film and it disregards all my old nfo's etc and starts scanning the whole lot again using the extention .info as if it cant see the already present nfo's. however, as i said MC read them all fine at first because it built my database when I added my movies folder.

Will this be fixed or do I have to rescrape every movie i have?

- StormyKnight - 2011-06-10

As of 3.405b with patch -3, we got MC to detect invalid nfo's & rename them as .info. This was to mainly to keep scene nfo's rather than delete them.

Firstly did you apply the latest patch.....

Second, can you post a nfo here that is an issue & we can have a look at it to see why MC is not happy with it.

Cheers

- rudeboyx - 2011-06-10

Ahh, thats a bit clearer. this is all very good but I customise the names of some films to keep them in order within XBMC

i.e
Alien 1
Alien 2 - Aliens
Alien 3
Alien 4 - Resurrection

Insatead of
Alien
Alien3
Alien Resurrection
Aliens

but MC starts rescraping from the internet and wipes all custom information.

cant MC be configured to use the nfo already there to create the new one? As it stands now people heve to rescrape their entire libraries.

As stated before, my MC 3.400 still works fine and XBMC has no problem reading the .nfo's it creates even to this day, so why is the new MC classing the .nfo's as incompatible?

As for the patch question, I have no idea. I just downloaded the latest version and gave it a try.

Thanks
RBX

PS, I'll try and post one of my .nfo's shortley. but it seems any .nfo created by MC 3.400 is classed as incompatible.

We had a slight issue with 3.406, the fixed version is now uploaded for download....

- StormyKnight - 2011-06-10

@rudeboyx, MC & XBMC allow you to change the sort order by changing the sort title - this title is different than the actual movie title. MC & XBMC will display the movie titles in the sort title order....

I scraped Notorious & then replaced my nfo with yours. I then successfully was able to rebuild....

Can I get you to try 3.406 just posted & see how you go....
We fixed quite a few issues with rebuild last week between 3.405 & 3.406.

As we worked through the week, we release patches, which are just the media companion.exe - so to get the very latest release, you need the weekly + the latest patch...

Anyway, I suspect 3.406b will resolve your issues...

Cheers
