Anyone managed to get XBMC on a minimal install of Maverick on the Revo shutting down and restarting via XBMC?

It seems Ubuntu in their infinite wisdom have removed polkit-auth and not replaced it with any similiar tool, so there is no obvious way to give xbmc the ability to shutdown the machine.

Seems a common thread in ubuntu, make very odd and often stupid decisions.....

prupert Wrote:This is happening because XBMC is notproperly installed, so it isn't loading, so you are seeing the standard login screen.

When you get to that screen, type your login name, press return, then type your password and press return, now run the remaining commands you didn't get to run last time.

im not seeing the standard login screen all i see is a tiny white box that says xbmc something (cant read it) another sentence after it, and then a big grey box in the white box that says quit. i can't click or anything.

hmm, that doesn't sound right....can you use SSH to log in to the box (you can do this from a ubuntu pc using "ssh -l loginyoucreated for XBMCBox IPADDRESSOFXBMCBox" or using Putty on windows.

Then run the remaining commands from that login.

no can do, only have a mac other than my revo.... I actually wouldn't mind just reloading xbmc 10.0 onto the revo and starting over but I can't create a bootable flash drive with a mac.... oy...

You can use this apparently: http://www.rbrowser.com/ to log in via SSH on a mac.

any chance i could get some live help, I am new to this and even what ssh is...

sorry I can't be more help.

With regards to creating a bootable flash disk, apparently if you install WINE and unetbootin http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ (choose the windows download as WINE allows you to install and run windows programs on a mac) you can use unetbootin to create a bootable flash disk.

I got all this from googling though, so I may be wrong.

Best of luck.

You could get a usb cd drive and load it or install it from that. You can get them for less than $25.

hi, i was trying to create an xbmc-live-10 usb from the iso but i keep having problems of it not being able to boot:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php...88&page=76#754

so i re-flashed my usb using dd to xbmc-live-9 (good thing i made a backup).
i booted up my acer revo using xbmc-live-9.
i ssh'd into it from another pc (xbmc/xbmc for login/pass).
and i ran:
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xbmc

i don't understand "dd" or "ssh'd"

plus I can't create a bootable flash (mac only"
