Well not that it matters so much but just to confirm that on my HT the nuvoton chip for IR is the NCT6775F there is none other in the box. I was also able to determine that my hardware revision is 1.0 -2 this is found silkscreened by the mobo type name. Like I said matters very little since regardless theres no drivers and I venture a guess this side of xmas it wont happen. So grab a usb mce remote of your choice.

There is nothing wrong with the remote that you get with your ION 330-HT, it works as a regular MCE remote.

So, as we are waiting for the on-board IR receiver to get supported many of you can make a temporary workaround, if you had an Xbox with a "DVD-kit" you can use that IR-receiver.

I just rebuilt my receiver and it works like a charm with XBMC and the remote that is shipped with the ION.

I used info from these two pages:

http://dlangenberg.googlepages.com/diycomputerremote
http://www.redcl0ud.com/ir_wiring.html

Only difference is that I removed the XBOX usb-port from the chip so that I have the USB cable out where the usb-port used to be.

I blacklisted the device xpad (read on the MythTV Wiki) by writing 'blacklist xpad' in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-xpad.conf. Follow more details there for how to configure it for lirc.

yep nice job/tutorial indeed alternative for the tech impaired who barely know Linux never mind handling a soldering iron - just buy an usb irda compatible with mce remotes (any will do) receiver/transmitter and away you go no fiddling for n00bs necessary. Amazon sell them.

I have been trying to get this working. So far I can only get it to work with my original xbox remote control. Have you got it working for the asrock remote? if so can post your /etc/lirc/hardware.conf and /etc/lirc/lircd.conf

You got the receiver working? You can see if you can get something on your screen when you start irw and press some buttons on your remote.

The original xbox remote works fine. I am trying to get the mce remote that came with the 330ht. No buttons are registered using irw.

Getting a bit tired of messing with linux at the moment. I seem to be spending more time in nano than using the box to watch movies etc. As soon as hardware acceleration works in windows, I am switching straight away.

Works just fine here with a regular IR usb receiver until Linux drivers are written for the internal chip, besides make sure to use beta1 of xbmc at time of writing this.

Advice

Stop moaning about learning, it like complaining you have a woman that wants too much sex.

I always run as root when configuring Linux I don't type sudo ever in a terminal.

Ok thanks. I will try this tonight. but Im pretty sure Ive done all this before. I am using the original xbox ir reciever.

The original xbox remote works fine? so I presume the driver is correct for the reciever. would this be correct?

irw does not respond to any commands from the asrock remote. So Is the problem with the lircd.conf ? or should i look elsewhere.

I guess you read that right? a few posts up from here, dont forget that Im using a normal usb mce ir receiver but my driver is not the same as yours would be but it sure would be what this guys amazing tut shows.

My setup is similar to that one except I removed the controller port from my xbox and soldered a USB cable to it, that way I can just plug my dongle into the controller port and I didn't have to worry about taking the dongle apart.

How should this help if there is no driver available? Posting this 3 times is 3 times too often.
