Not entirely sure where you get that they are an after thought, quite a bit of discussion has gone into them as also stated here:

I have also changed the studio flag colours back to white (kinda missed that lol)

Dont wory thoughs are the final flags but the opacity is wrong on them there ment to be sutle looking not in yor face.

yeah am new to all this donations lark and i feel uncomfortable doing it.
i do skinning because i like doing it not for money but Steven set one up for us and used my paypal now i have found out i need to split it all up lol so am not keen on this at all.

Absolutely not. There is NO real reason to make a 1080p version since most everyone is running 720p in the first place.
