I interpreted it to mean that they start off with some stutter, but then play fine after that.

I typed this while at work, so I rushed it. LOL

Prior to adding the HD decoder, these two .mkv stuttered with XBMC to the point of not being watchable. I ended up having to launch an external player to work around this issue.

Now that I have the above, everything seems to work so far from the very beginning to several minutes into movie.

Granted, it is limited testing, but it stuttered right away without HD Decoder and very easy to duplicate... Now I have yet to make it stutter.

I feel pretty confident that this will do the trick.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Dave, I actually got it right the first time but I wanted to be sure.

Cheers! Smile

I'm using the DX version at the moment for WASAPI support in vista, does the GL build have this?

- fincheresque - 2010-01-22

Got my card in the mail today. Score! So, assuming something wasn't working right, would this be the place to ask then? (specifically VC-1 encoded MKV's aren't working currently) Or would there be a better thread?

Haven't included a debug log, because again, I don't want to clutter up this thread unless it's the right place to do so.

Card works great for h264 stuff...20-30% CPU on 1080p with a single-core atom +ION. (yes, I know I could be using VDPAU right now...or the dsplayer branch...but I'm a tech-geek...what can I say. Smile)

I've always assumed WASAPI was a DX only thing but... GL takes care of the video portion, maybe the standard soundsystem of Windows is involved for the GL builds as well.
For the time it takes you might as well give it a try.

I am a little confused about the "unsupported" WinGL version of XBMC. I would like to use SmoothVideo with the Broadcom chip, but it does not appear to be present in current GL builds. Am I missing something? It was originally developed for the GL platform and it seems strange it would have just been dropped when the team switched to DX. I could use DSPlayer and I do sometimes, but DVDPlayer is more suitable to subtitle playback at the moment.

I got an ASUS AT3N7A-I with just a plain regular PCI slot (see pic http://www.asus.com/websites/global/products/xrR7wto9Z5BL42aU/P_500.jpg). What kind of convertor should I use for the broadcom card?
Hoping I can switch back to windows too Big Grin

I too have only PCI slot. Maybe there is some solution?

- ashlar - 2010-01-22

I don't think PCI offers enough bandwidth for the task at end.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_Component_Interconnect

Quote:Width in bits: 32 or 64
Capacity 133 MB/s (32-bit at 33MHz)
266 MB/s (32-bit at 66MHz or 64-bit at 33MHz)
533 MB/s (64-bit at 66MHz)
Style: Parallel

The oldest standard has sufficient speed - I think so. 133 mega bytes / sec ??

I can surely be mistaken, but I've never seen the card in PCI version (would love for it to exist, maybe it would do the miracle of allowing my old P2120 to play back hi-res stuff).

SATA HDD (PCI controler) file copy to internal SATA controler ~75MB/sec. Continuous transfer in TotalCommander.

I know, it's just that in video you might need burst speeds that are faster, I honestly don't know. Again, if it existed in PCI I'd be happy too. Laugh
