i know, but i dont see it in the launcher menu. only 4 items there (xbmc, boxee, nightly, launcher)

Make sure your not running the defaults command as sudo. It must be run by the frontrow user so that the correct plist is edited.

I made a full new set-up of my ATV (i.e., upgraded to Firmware 3.0.2, patchtsicked, installed Nito). Now it works by entering the two statements above and I get it working.

Only issue remaining is that I cannot download skins from the "SVN repository" as it shows them "incompatible". Downloaded them manually and copied them through SSH. All working now. Leave a "bug report" on the SVN installer in the respective thread.

3.0.2 issues? - jlemus - 2010-03-21

I too have updated one of my @TVs to 3.0.2 - but I am witnessing much more frame drops than my other @TV that is still under 3.0.1.

Does anyone know if there are issues with 3.0.2?

I am running svn 28256.

Setup question-wireless - raincntry - 2010-03-22

I just purchased an Atv with the express plan of hacking it, install the Crystal HD card, and using it to watch 1080p HD movies.
I was going to install ATV Flash, which appears to have the Crystal support as part of its package. It also includes XBMC which I plan to use as my central media player with the new card.

Here's what I don't know: How easy is it to have the Atv work wirelessly once the wireless card is out? I understand I'll need a network bridge, which I can handle, and network it with my airport express. If I do that, will the Atv work wirelessly and will I still be able to access it with cyberduck?

I truly appreciate the great posts on this board as it sealed the deal on Atv but before I void my warrantee by cracking it open, it would be helpful to know that I'm not really losing any functionality.

Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forums,

I see no reason for you to use ATV Flash which is a paid version of atvusb-creator, have a look there, download b13 version for Mac and follow the easy instructions to create the patchstick. plug it in your ATV's USB port and reboot, wait for the confirmation that all is in order and reboot(remove the stick before). Update the Launcher via Download section and install the XBMC r28256 and follow the instructions in the first post of this thread to have the Crystal HD drivers/lib installed.

Thats all, and its free Smile

Creating a bridge should be fairly easy with AE, after that plug ATV into it and you will have the N wireless functionality back on your ATV.

no, you are not losing anything, just gaining the HD playback Smile

Not recognised? - untg99 - 2010-03-30

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for the great work on this, I've just installed my Broadcom HD card into the ATV and it either is not recognising it or failing at some other point, I have:

bash-2.05b# kextstat | grep crystalhd
65 0 0x2fcfb000 0xb000 0xa000 com.broadcom.crystalhd.driver (0.9.26) <5 4 3 2>

But:
bash-2.05b# dmesg | grep -i crystal

Displays nothing?

I followed the instructions to install the latest SVN(r28923) and drivers(r26).

The relevant XBMC lines seem to be:

bash-2.05b# grep -i crystal /Users/frontrow/Library/Logs/xbmc.log
21:32:35 T:2684407808 M: 34086912 DEBUG: SECTION:LoadDLL(libcrystalhd.dylib)
21:32:35 T:2684407808 M: 34054144 DEBUG: Loading: libcrystalhd.dylib
21:32:35 T:2684407808 M: 33964032 ERROR: CrystalHD: device open failed
21:32:35 T:2684407808 M: 33964032 INFO: CrystalHD: broadcom crystal hd not found
21:33:05 T:2684407808 M: 20000768 DEBUG: SECTION:UnloadDelayed(DLL: libcrystalhd.dylib)
21:33:05 T:2684407808 M: 20008960 DEBUG: Unloading: libcrystalhd.dylib
21:35:22 T:2684407808 M: 23715840 INFO: CrystalHD: device closed

So it appears as though the ATV isn't loading the drivers either because it cannot see the card or possibly it's a dud card?
I'm using ATV version 3.0.2.

Any help or another log file I should be looking at would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I just read this:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_for_Mac_on_Apple_TV
Again, and it seems to be saying that 2.x is the most supported version, which leads me to believe 3.0.2 may not be supported at all, would this be correct?

That would NOT be correct.

driver is loaded, xbmc can find libcrystalhd.dylib but you don't see any indication in dmesg that driver sees the card. might just dmesg and look rather than grep'ing for crystal.

If nothing in dmesg about driver opening access to card, your card is a dud.

I had the same issue which was resolved in this thread before the lighting strike. Did you get your card on eBay? That is where I got my first card. I ended up buying another card from Logic Supply and that solved the issue. The eBays cards are just crap.

- untg99 - 2010-03-30

Sounds like it's Logic Supply for me then.
It was an eBay one.

It does look suspiciously like it could be a dud from my investigations.

- thnmnt - 2010-03-31

although plenty of people (me included) seem to be having zero issues with ebay cards. I hope you figure it out though!

- untg99 - 2010-03-31

They are saying here:
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1863599
That the cards are dodgy.
In anticipation of a refund, I've ordered one from Logic Supply.
