Nod Yup, I can do that. I was just looking at not having to switch screens, rather just have the description show up in the list...

WAY too many pages to go through and searching through this thread is very, very difficult so to be a PITA I will just ask.

My music library looks NOTHING like what the screenshot looks like in the first post.

I am using my music from my server which has the following folder structure (Artist > Album > Song) which came over from iTunes. Is there a way to get all the artwork for it or to make it look like that screenshot in the original post?

Thanks in advance.

The most irritating thing about XBMC, is the difference between "files" and "library" views. It is no more evident to me than in the music configurations, and it's probably mostly my fault.

Wink

You need to add your music sources in "files" view, and then, scan them all to the library. Once there, you need to switch to the context menu to change your view type from "files" to "library", after which point, you will have a number of different view types to choose from. XBMC does all of the album, artist and song scraping for you, so you don't need to go searching for anything, but one tip - if your music is ugly (as mine is) and doesn't have the proper formatting, ID tags, etc., be prepared for a lot of album art that doesn't look right, or is missing.

(Add to this my own 'personal issue', whereby my wireless HTPC - don't worry, I have another wired one - constantly drops connection to the LAN, causing my music library to disappear... ...a never-ending source of frustration.)

Regardless, there are a number of threads in the 'newbie' forum sections dedicated to preparing and scanning your music. The skin just adds some nice foliage once you have it there. ...and Alaska Revisited is the BEST for that foliage.

Cool

This may be a stupid question... but this is my first dedicated XBMC HTPC. I am running XBMC Live and want to install Alaska Revisited. I understand I need to download the .zip file and then point to that when I go to install the addon.

My question is... how do I download the file to my XBMC HTPC if I am running Live?!

- Hitcher - 2011-01-21

USB stick?

- bmcclure937 - 2011-01-21

Good point. I could always do that. Or I guess I could put the file on my NAS and access it via terminal or something... I will worry about that when the time comes. I have not finished the install. I am sure I can SSH in and figure some things out.

- rapid_pete - 2011-01-21

i have a strange beahvior when i try to get into my music files. i can't switch to filemode permanently. when i enter from home menu it shows the viewtype options whith enabled filemode first every time, not the album art. no matter if i leaved the music menu with activate filemode or library mode. seems like it would force the file mode into library mode

SSH to your machine and use something like "sudo wget http://blabla.zip" to download the zip to your machine.

Use the sub menu for files or edit the links in the view style you're using.

Look for either

<onclick>ActivateWindow(MyMusicLibrary,Albums,return)</onclick>

or

<onclick>ActivateWindow(MyMusicLibrary,Albums)</onclick>

and change to

<onclick>ActivateWindow(MusicFiles)</onclick>

1) Use SSH (or Alt+Ctrl+F1 through F6) to get to a console.
2) Login with your xbmc user.
3) Type: wget http://xbmc-repo-hitchers.googlecode.com/files/xbmc.repo.hitchers.zip
4) Logout of the terminal session (or use Alt+Ctrl+F7 to get back to XBMC GUI)
5) Go to Settings -> Add Ons -> Get Add Ons -> Install From Zip file
6) Find the hitcher repo in your home folder...

Done Smile

Thanks for that Tophicles, I'll add to the first post.

thank you very much hitcher for helping me out. keep up the good work.

Hey, first of all, I love your work. Truly great design!

Second, unfortunately I keep getting in trouble with this skin. Often after an update I go back to confluence or sometimes I only see the letters and nothing else loads until I switch skins and then switch back.

Last night however I had nothing but a black screen, even after rebooting. Deleting the skin folder via ssh fixed the problem, I went back to confluence and after reinstalling everything works fine again and even my skinsettings are still there! (they are stored somewhere else?)

I keep getting an error about recentlyadded.py though.

Anyway, if you could shed some light on the issue Smile

Turn off auto updating in the context menu of AddOns. XBMC does a very foolish thing when updating addons, it download the zip and instead of overwriting the directory it deletes everything then extracts the .zip file. If you have A.R running and it updates you can end up with an unusable screen. Usually easily fixed by going to another skin then back to A.R, but sometimes not as you found out.

When you want to upgrade, if you want to have NO issues, switch to Confluence then upgrade. When complete switch back to A.R.

thanks, I still have the problem with the recentlyadded.py though.

I see its called by the skin:

I did not change a thing though. I don't know how to reinstall the recentlyadded plugin.
