RE: 24p and audio sync issues - FernetMenta - 2014-05-10

what happens if you leave your shiny new Yamaha out the chain?

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - Xophile - 2014-05-10

No difference... With VLC or any other player it's fine with the same hardware connected. Definitely software related to XBMC.

I immediately upgraded and was hoping to avoid having to use audio delays etc. For me the issues remain and I wrote "what a shame", because I was hoping otherwise.

I did not mean to offend anyone involved in the development of XBMC.

I haven't paid/donated a single cent for xbmc and if you are a part of the official xbmc team, I probably never will.

The issue still remains, I think it's natural that people get frustrated.

How can I help resolve this?

I'm not on "shitty" hardware as you write. And to be honest, you don't know what hardware I'm running, yet.

I'm on a i3 with hd4000, Intel main board, 8gb ram and a brand new LG LA557V TV. I also use a shiny new Yamaha RX-A830 receiver. All software and bios etc upgraded and correctly configured.

@audial: Thanks for you message!

i might be wrong but i am pretty sure a HD4000 cannot produce 24p properly, intel only got it perfect with haswell based 4400/4600 and 5000 series gpu's

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - FernetMenta - 2014-05-10

@orby the 24hz issue is a different story

@Xophile we get the processing latency from the driver. Currently we read that value when playback starts or after a display lost event. If a change of refresh rate does not fire this display lost event we don't update latency.
Could you please test the following: set refresh rate to 24hz before starting playback. would this make a difference?

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - Xophile - 2014-05-10

FernetMenta:

Thanks for taking the time to answer me. I'd gladly help getting this issue sorted out.

Do I set the refresh rate in Windows before running xbmc? Any other settings I need to adjust?

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - FernetMenta - 2014-05-10

Yes, set refresh rate before starting xbmc and uncheck "adjust display refresh rate to match video"

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - Xophile - 2014-05-11

If I do that, audio is better synced, no question about that.

I just realized there are some new audio options in version 13. Anything else I should try there?

I will kick off a build for you to try some code changes if you want to assist. stay tuned.

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - FernetMenta - 2014-05-11

could you try this build and post log: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/win32/XBMCSetup-20140510-20c1fe5-win32.exe

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - Xophile - 2014-05-11

Great! I will try this but not until Tuesday (business trip...)

Should output configuration be set at "optimized" to leave the audio untouched? That is the new setting in 13 I'm not familiar with...

Thanks again!

THX Fernet, will try it too. i also have audio issues since a long time (now using a lenovo q180 with intel hd4000, marantz sr5007 and a sony w9). after upgrading to gotham final a imagine a better behaviour but lipsync isnt perfect.

i'll try your build soon and will give feedback.

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - torcar - 2014-05-13

I tested the build yesterday... sorry, no time to create debug log.

However, just as a quick feedback I could not see any difference when it came to audio-sync.
And the build crashed when trying to access the audio sync menu's while in the movie. (Enter-key)

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - gotjazz84 - 2014-05-23

hrm I've been pretty frustrated about this too recently because I halfed my vewing distance and got a larger TV to top that off.
With the old setup I assume the problem was there but not as noticable - now I'm viewing way more 1080/24p content and can'T watch more than 30 min without my ocd coming out and me rewinding the same scene again and again to adjust the audio offset.
Tried everything I could find - disable the auto matching of the screen refresh rate an d manually setting 24hz etc - all audio sync mehtods.
I assume it's a software problem but anyway here's my setup: Arch linux, ati hd6950, intel i5 cpu, newest catalyst drivers.

Reading this thread this seems to be a general xbmc problem across all plattforms anyway though so I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Haven't read the whole thread but searched it - does anyone knwo if there'S an open bug report to follow for this somewhere?

Guess meanwhile I'll just run some sort of dlna server and stream directly from the tv - though I'll miss all the xbmc features Sad (and also tinkering around with dlna profiles isn't as much fun as it sounds either if you want to get everything right Big Grin)

edit: oh sorry - found this thread via search - jsut realized it's a windows thread

RE: 24p and audio sync issues - belongamick - 2014-05-23

Just in case this fixes the issue for anyone else.

I had av sync issues with 24p content for the longest time - but for me it was resolved in 13.0. BUT ONLY if I use these settings:

enable adjust display refresh rate to match playback
and enable Sync Playback to Display
and use A/V Sync method Audio Clock

I am bistreaming audio to my Yamaha AMP using wasapi.

If I disable A/V Sync then the issue comes back.

Pressing o during playback shows a missed counter which increments by 1 or 2 per hour, or if I pause it runaway increments until I resume playback.

I'm using an AMD 5450 graphics card.
