Older hardware question - carcraze - 2010-09-15
I have done some searching but wanted to ask before I go out and pick up a new card.
I have recently been playing with xbmc with a PC I had kicking around. It's a Dell P4 3 Ghz 2GB mem with an ATI X600 and windows XP. It has been running SD and a 720P without too much problems. I did a bluray rip and tried a playback from the BD file structure and no go. Video would not play smooth and was out of sync. Processor looked maxed out during playback.
I still want to retain windows as I run some windows apps as well so with that beig said I was going to pick up an ATI 5450 low profile and was wondering if it would stand a chance with that card or will windows 7 need to also go on it?

You need Windows 7. XP lacks the DXVA2 backend.
With that card, Windows 7 and DXVA it should work with any x264 file.
