Hi, i'm trying to use this add-on but i am not able to let it works.
I have an original Microsoft IR6 MCE remote so i should be in the correct condition to let it works.
My system is a windows 7 x64, and i'm using Dharma beta 2.

In device manager i see: eHome infrared receiver (USBCIR)

I 've installed the addon and i see it activeted, but i can only use directions and OK buttons. The green button start MC.. Sad

Sorry i'm really new to XBMC so maybe i'm making some mistakes. Can anyone help me? Something to check?

Thanks

Download this Keyboard.xml place it in here:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\system\keymaps
overwrite it when prompted.

make sure you download the latest addon from JR site version 0.0.2. In the zip file look for "MSRemote.reg" apply it then restart your PC and it should work for you with no issues.

You will need to have an XBMC shortcut on your desktop and assign it with a shortcut key CTRL+SHIFT+W then the green button in your remote will work.

Soon I will post a Pre version that is compatible with the new Keyboard.xml file that are similar to my old reg v1.20. see my sig for thread link Wink

Once you've installed the addon go to the home menu and select Programs then MCERemote. From the addon menu select "Configure MCE keyboard shortcuts". After you restart the PC you should find most of the buttons work. With the official release of Dharma all the buttons will work.

Yes.

Well, Eventghost has some nice features. For example Eventghost can route signals from the remote to XBMC even when XBMC doesn't have the focus, though this is only likely to be needed if you have a multiple display setup.

Just bought an MCE Compatible remote yesterday (got tired of battery draining on my PS3 remote).

I just plugged the remote in and the basic buttons already worked (play, pause, stop, navigational buttons and enter)

I will give this addon a try this week-end, my goal is to achieve the config I had in evenghost for my ps3 remote on my MCE remote without using eventghost.

thanks for this

If Play etc work your remote is probably not a full MS compatible. It probably sends MCE shortcuts keys. In that case the addon will just report that it can't find an MS remote. Still, it's worth a try.

yeah I just read the reviews on the remote I have (ARC-1100) and it's not using the ehome driver.

but on another hand, I saw on the Eventghost forums that the beta version (0.4.x) had a plugin for that remote. So migrating my PS3 config to this remote might not be that hard.

I'll still give your addon a try just for fun Smile

My addon will just complain that it can't find an MS remote.

If you replace the keyboard.xml in C:\Program Files\XBMC\system\keymaps with the latest version from http://trac.xbmc.org/browser/branches/Dharma/system/keymaps/keyboard.xml you'll find that all the buttons work. If you want to tweak them you can write a customised keyboard.xml in your %appdata%\XBMC\userdata\keymaps folder. The advantage of this approach is that if you replace your remote with a different MCE remote everything will still work as before.

Problems in Win 7 - coruscan - 2010-09-25

The add-on does not work in Win 7 as it is.

platform.system returns "Microsoft" instead of "Windows", and even modifying that, XBMC needs to be run as an admin in order to modify the registry keys.

After doing that, it works perfectly! Thanks!!

Hmm, thanks for checking it. When I get back to the office I'll try a few different flavours of Windows.

Running win 7 64bit and Dharma beta2 don't seem to work at all here. Thanks alot for the job tho.

- jhsrennie - 2010-09-26

@mrpg and zpike: the plugin checks it's running on Windows by checking that the Python system.platform() function returns "Windows". However on Win7 the function unhelpfully returns "Microsoft" instead.

I'll fix this on Monday.
