In a normal use of Advanced Launcher, you do not need to manually edit the launchers.xml file. If you do not know exactly what you are doing, you may corrupt the launchers.xml and then all Advanced Launcher.

All could be done (add launcher, add item, configuration, import and scrap information and images) directly from Advanced Launcher. Also do not hesite to read the user guide and visite the wiki pages for the launcher configuration.

Thanks
Installed from the repository - which went fine

Then was just trying to open up through the programs - add on menu but nothing happens - xbmc just reboots

So I cant even get to the bit where you can configure launchers because the xml doesnt exist

Thanks for the advice - ill be back soon I think

Do you have checked if XBMC (or the XBMC user) have the rights to create/read/write the launchers.xml file on the /home/xbmc/.xbmc/userdata/addon_data/ directory? The launchers.xml is created at the first start of Advanced Launcher. But if XBMC do not have the rights to it, Advanced Launcher will never work correctly.

Looks about right - see below

xbmc runs under user xbmc

drwxr-xr-x 13 xbmc xbmc 4096 2011-09-04 12:24 addon_data

all im getting at the moment is "Script Failed!: addon.py"

....no im not its crashing xbmc again after playing with the permissons

its now chmodded to 777 for the folder and the launchers.xml and it reboots with the same error in the crash log

removed the launchers.xml altogether and the same thing

Would love to somehow get this going

What is the content of the launcher.xml file? Which version of XBMC are you using ? Which skin are you using?

Hi Angelscry,

I'm from Montreal too. Thanks for your addon it's a must to have in an XBMC config!!

I have a weird problem, maybe you could help me. Everything was working perfectly with emulators and some PC games using LNK files. Today I tried to install a nightly build of XBMC but I decided to reinstall after the stable version. Since, I have a problem with directory and file name when I create a new launcher. The problem is when there are some spaces into the name or directories, Advanced launcher try to run the file only with the first word of the directory or the file and I get a windows popup "windows cannot find...make sure you typed the name correctly". The name file inside is troncated.
I hope I'm clear, I'm doing to explain my problem

Do I have to reinstall something because something has been corrupted?

Thank you

With the last version of Advanced Launcher (1.5.4), arguments for .lnk files launchers have changed. It must be now %rom% and not anymore "%rom%": http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=File_shortcuts

There is nothing in the launchers.xml at the moment - i removed everything hoping that the advanced launcher would recreate the config

i put some config in there previously myself from previous posts on this thread but that didnt seem to work - had to do this as nothing was working for me

So tried deleting the launchers.xml (which I previously had to create to stop xbmc from crashing) altogether to see if that will force the app to recreate

not happening at the moment

Im using xbmc 10.1 Dharma with the confluence skin at the present time - was on Aeon MkII too

Hang on - Ive just rebooted this morning and now its gone further - its comming up with launcher type now - so it looks like its working I guess
I wonder if it just needed a restart or something - odd

Now if I can get some guidance on getting chromium to work Huh

Further update - tried switching back to Aoen MKII and it crashes XBMC again - now back on confluence and it is at least bring up some dialogue boxes

Sorry about this further update - ok i have chrome opening now, however Im getting the same problem as I was when using firefox under the executor addon the browser only opens up in half of the available screen

Its a 40inch TV and only half of it is used - the text is tiny - anybody have any idea

here my launchers.xml - I havent created the individual html files yet as Im not sure what directory to put them in - would rather get this going full screen first if possible

http://pastebin.com/s7pwV2mv

Sorry further update now got websites displaying - found one of your earlier posts - now to the fullscreen problem

No, the launchers.xml file must not be empty. If you want to remove everything you have just to delete it.
tododo Wrote:i put some config in there previously myself from previous posts on this thread but that didnt seem to work - had to do this as nothing was working for me
That's not the way Advanced Launcher is working. You do not need to constantly edit the launchers.xml file to add stuff. All could be done from the XBMC GUI.

tododo Wrote:Hang on - Ive just rebooted this morning and now its gone further - its comming up with launcher type now - so it looks like its working I guess

If you previously change several time the version of XBMC, it could be possible that it was the problem.

tododo Wrote:Now if I can get some guidance on getting chromium to work Huh
There is a wiki page for Chromium configuration as file launcher: http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Chromium_Browser#Linux

You can also create a stand alone launcher :
  • Application : /usr/bin/chromium
  • Arguments : -kiosk "www.xbmc.org"

tododo Wrote:Further update - tried switching back to Aoen MKII and it crashes XBMC again - now back on confluence and it is at least bring up some dialogue boxes
If XBMC/Advanced Launcher works with Confluence default skin but not with Aeon MK2 skin, that's because there is a bug into Aeon MK2 skin.

Thats a problem with your Ubuntu system. XBMC and the windows manager under which Chromium is running are not using the same resolution. Switch the windows manager to the same resolution as XBMC.

Please stop edit the launchers.xml file manually if you do not know what you are doing. Even me, I do not edit manually this file. There is dedicated option into Advanced Launcher to edit all the launchers.xml tags :

Here is an example how to do this using .sh script for mednafen : http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=40
You just have to adapt this scrip for minecraft by replacing the /usr/bin/mednafen -fs 1 "$1" command line by the one needed by minecraft.

You could increase the font size into firefox by pressing "CTRL" and " +" key simultaneously. You can also go into Firefox preferences / Content / Default font size increase the font size.

Version 1.5.5 - Angelscry - 2011-09-05

Version 1.5.5 : This new version of Advanced Launcher add 2 ComicVine scrapers : one for comics data and one for comics covers. Both scrapers are working under automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes like for games scrapers.

Image Image

Automatic data scraper queries are based on comic filenames. So for a more effective results, comic filenames must contain the title of the serie and the issue number, like :
  • batman #700.cbr
  • batman 700.cbr
  • batman vol.700.cbr
  • etc...
Cover scraper queries are based on comic titles returned by the data scraper.

Image Image

These 2 scrapers are actually under "beta" version. That's mean that they may still contain some bugs. So all your feedbacks and any suggestion concerning these scrapper improvement are welcome.

Changelog :
  • Add ComicVine data scapper
  • Add ComicVine thumb/cover scapper
