If you know how to do it and you know that a lot of xbmc users would appreciate it, provide duplicated versions of Advanced Launcher (sorted by theme... one for games one for comics) on your proper repository.

Version 1.6.2 - Angelscry - 2011-10-12

Version 1.6.2 : This new version of Advanced launcher add, for files launchers, automatic options to import and export items .nfo files linked to a launcher. For this, the "Clear Items List" option have been replaced by a new "Items List" menu entry.

Image

This new "Items List" menu entry propose 3 options :
  • Import items data form .nfo file : This option will automatically import the items data from the corresponding .nfo files.
  • Export items data to .nfo file: This option will automatically create/save or update the items data into the corresponding .nfo files.
  • Clear Items List : same option as for previous version of Advanced Launcher, it will clear the items list of the launcher.
.
Image

As for manual import/export .nfo file option, to be imported, created or updated .nfo file must be located into the same folder than the managed items (romspath) and must have the same filename than the application. For example if your application is named "zsnesw.exe" the corresponding .nfo file will be named "zsnesw.nfo" and will be located into the same folder than the SNES roms.

This version also fix a bug occurring under Windows systems during the creation of thumbs, fanart or nfo files containing accentuated characters into their filename.

Changelog:
  • Add automatic items nfo file import/export options for launchers
  • Replace "Clear Items List" option by an "Items List" menu
  • Fix thumb/fanart/nfo filename saves containing accentued characters (Windows)

Configuration of ScummVM is slighty different than for other emulators, because its command line does not ask for the rom/game filename but for a king of game short name (like for MAME games). And so the rompath has to be indicated first into ScummVM itself. The trick is to rename the game file with their game short name and use the %romname% parameters for argument. Here is the corresponding WIKI page : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=ScummVM

Hi, thanks for adding info on ScummVM. Just a quick note cause I still haven't yet gotten it to work with ALA just yet. The WIKI refers to the Linux guide. For Windows -- there should be no extension, correct?

For ROM names, are you saying that we should be creating a Rom Name that includes the rom path? For example, "M:\EMULATION\ROMS\PC\SCUMMVM\monkey2" as the file name? I think I need a little bit more help on this. Thanks in advance!

ScummVM use game short names for it command line (http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/). You need to put all your games into the same folder and then indicate this folder path into ScummVM setup. On the other part, Advanced Launcher is only able to use filenames or game titles as command line arguments. So, to make Advanced Launcher works with ScummVM, you need to create some kind of "fake" files with game short names filenames. These "fake" files must have the same extension (like 1c) to be recognized by Advanced Launcher when you will perform a scan (http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=ScummVM)

Angelscry,

Thanks for the tip. This was sort of the idea I was originally trying to go for, except my "fake files" had no extensions, thus it would fail. Are the extensions just for scan only? Once scanned, do I need to remove the extensions from my fake files? Thanks again! BTW, I love your add-on!! Simple and elegant.

Yes, extentions are needed only to allow Advanced Launcher to recognize the files. But you do not need to remove the extension after. The %romname% argument is corresponding to the filename without the extention.

Version 1.6.3 - Angelscry - 2011-10-14

Version 1.6.3 : This small update of Advanced Launcher add a HTBackdrops fanart scraper. HTBackdrops website actually host game, application and comic fanart images. The new scraper will allow you to download these images and use them as fanarts into Advanced Launcher. This new version also fix some message display error during launchers nfo files import/export processes.

Changelog:
  • Add HTBackdrops fanart scraper
  • Fix dialog display during launchers nfo import/export

Angelscry,

Again, thank you for your help -- this worked. I did not know about the %romname% argument, I was only aware of the %rom% argument (which includes path and extensions).

However, I do have one tiny problem I have with ScummVM and XBMC. Launching a ScummVM game works great. No problems. But when I quit the game, and it brings me back to XBMC, the resolution is completely hosed -- meaning everything in XBMC is now HUGE, to the point where I cannot see everything. It looks as though everything got zoomed in or scaled awkwardly.

Does anyone else have this problem? I'm not on my PC so I don't have a log. But I'm running XBMC 10.1 and the latest ScummVM 1.3.1 (10/6 nightly build). Perhaps this just may be a ScummVM problem, but when I launch it from command line prompt, resolution in Windows looks OK -- just from XBMC/ALA the scaling of XBMC is distorted. When I exit XBMC, Windows is properly scaled with correct resolution, it was just the XBMC application that got hosed.

Thanks in advance!

That's a common problem. When you start an application from XBMC that change the screen resolution, when you return back to XBMC this resolution is not always restored. You can try several things :
  • Try to setup XBMC, Windows and ScummVM with the same screen resolution. If you are able to do this, it will solve your problem.
  • You can also try to use an intermediate script that will close XBMC before starting ScummVM, and that will restart XBMC when ScummVM will be closed. You will found such kind of script description here : http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6
  • Other possibility is to write an intermediate script that will use a windows application (like Display Changer : http://www.12noon.com/displaychanger.htm) which will change the screen resolution before restoring XBMC.

hmmmmm....looks interesting

now all we need is for you to make it so that when i scrape lets say a series folder called the darkness , and it contains several different folders of the darkness like volume 1 , 2 etc

in in thos are the comic files , some named

The_Darkness_93__2011___noads___Tarutaru_

The_Darkness_91_(2011)_(Digimortal)

stuff like that and it to correctly scrape those with the best info

and then get the correct fanart and thumbs for that

now that would help me alot , since i got a shit ton of comics and if youd have a shit ton of comics youd see it the same way bro ,itd be impossible to sort all of those an rename them as you mentioned , itd take me 1 year without sleep if youd calculate the time -.-', we gotta get this more sophisticated bro !!

and theres gotta be an option released to be able to scan a comics folder with its series contained and then launchers being auto created for each series in the comics folder with its cbr./cbz extensions as preset

like the darkness , angelus , artifacts etc you get the deal i know this might seem abit of a hassle to code up but in the long run itd reduce the time you spend creating launchers and having to rename and resort youre entire collection and give you that time back to actually read some comics and spend youre time enjoying life more

i hope you understand this and i hope i can count on you bro if you have some of youre precious time to spare , i know this isnt easy work but what to do you made me a adv junky and yes i use it for all and everything thats the beauty of it

for games , for comics for all it just needs some tweaking on the comics side xD, oh btw the games scraper for info could be abit better some games even thou named exactly as the official name doesnt get picked up by thegamesdb or allgames is there a better one?,hmmmm.....

p.s: nonetheless we all are greatful to you bro you rock !!! and xbmc wouldnt be what it is without you and the killer addon adv!

Angelscry,

Thank you for all those suggestions. I will try each one and hopefully one will work out for me. Thanks again! Smile

Sorry if this has been discussed in the 2660+ posts but I can't seem to get N64 roms to work, when I go to play a rom I get attempt to open file failed using project64 1.7.0.49 I have tried other Emulators with no success. (NES, SNES and Genesis all work great)

Edit- It seems when I click on the error ok button and then go to file/open rom and search for the rom manually it will work that way. Any idea how to fix it?

Image

my other problem is when I click add items it doesn't scrape and collect any thumbs or fanart for the roms but when I go into the launcher and click edit item on a game and click thumbs or fan art it will get it. Is there a way to get around this so I don't have to do every game manually? I'm a noob and would appreciate any help.

Emulators configuration are avaliable on the Advanced Launcher dedicated WIKI pages : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Main_Page

Version 1.6.0 and 1.7.0 of Project64 do not manage command line parameters with the same manner. The wiki page description (http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Project64) is for the free version of Project64 (version 1.6.0). To use the version 1.7.0, you need to modify the launcher argument from %rom% to "%rom%"

For your second problem, the automatic and semi-automatic data/thumbs/fanarts scraping ONLY occurs when you add NEW items. If you have already added some items (without any data/thumbs/fanarts) you need to remove them from your launcher list (clear items list option), select the right data/thumbs/fanarts scrapers into Advanced Launcher settings, and then select the Add new items to import all.
