That's normal. You cannot rollback because 1.9.1 version of Advanced Launcher in not working/compatible with latest GIT versions of XBMC. Versions 1.10.x of Advanced Launcher are supposed to bring back the compatibility between Frodo and Advanced Launcher... but that's not perfect yet... Undecided

I'm running 1.10.2 on Frodo using Ubuntu 12.04. I'm able to reproduce the issue of external applications not starting. I've tried zsnes and gedit. Neither seem to get executed.

Is there a way to get logging information when this happens? My xbmc.log doesn't update when the issue occurs. Here is my launchers.xml (edited for readability):

Code:

Here is version 1.10.3 : http://xbmc-advanced-launcher.googlecode.com/files/plugin.program.advanced.launcher-1.10.3.zip

The repository will be updated this evening (I cannot do it from where I'm actually). This version definitively fix the tooglefullscreen option/feature under XBMC Frodo. If some of you still occuring problem or error, please post a complete bug report here (with xbmc.log file with XBMC debug mode activated). Thanks.

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - SwedishGojira - 2012-10-23

It seems to be working much better in 1.10.3, but it seems that sometimes the programs get launched "out of focus", like they were launched in the background and are waiting for xbmc to stop so they can get focus instead.

I have launch scripts that look like this:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
killall -STOP xbmc.bin
/usr/local/bin/mednafen -fs 1 "$1"
killall -CONT xbmc.bin

Most of the time the programs launch but every now and then I have to force kill XBMC to let the program run. When I kill XBMC it automatically respawns and I can hear the program I launched running in the background until I kill it with the escape-button.

Here are links to some debug logs. Hope they can help you. I can sey for sue that the last thing I did recording these logs was killing XBMC because so the programs could run.

Could you try this (adding a small delay before suspending XBMC) :

Code:
#!/bin/sh
sleep 0.5
killall -STOP xbmc.bin
/usr/local/bin/mednafen -fs 1 "$1"
killall -CONT xbmc.bin

Does it fix your problem?

Wonderful! That seems to fix the problems Smile Have launched a whole bunch of times and apps without any trouble.
Is it XBMC taking longer than before to react to commands or what caused this problem?

Oh, and another small question while I have the great masters attention Wink
The scripts seem to have trouble with files that have parentheses in the filenames. Is there a way to remedy this?
Putting "" around the path doesn't seem to be enough.

Yes. What I'm suspecting is when you change XBMC state (minimize, hide or switch to window), XBMC take a certain time to store/save this new state, and so when you suspend XBMC or start an application (that use common resource with XBMC) it generate problem (freeze, XBMC black screen, etc...). I will release a new version of Advanced Launcher (1.10.4) that will integrate a small delay (500ms) before starting an application and after close it. On my system delay under 300ms make XBMC freeze. Because I don't know if this delay is related only to XBMC of to the speed of the system, I will also add an option into Advanced Launcher to adjust this delay (between 100ms to 2000ms).

While we're on the topic of linux scripts, I'm wondering if you or anyone can see what's wrong with a script I was working on this morning (I'm making my first attempt at using xbmc and advanced launcher with linux this past week).

I'm using a pair of dual shock 3 controllers through bluetooth on ubuntu 10.04. A lot of emulators don't allow you to bind a joystick button for exiting, so I'm using joy2key (no relation to the windows program, I think) in the scripts to map the home button to the relevant keyboard key. I'm also using it to control evince, the default gnome document viewer, for looking at manuals/guides. My problem with the script is that joy2key, when launched, looks for the program included as an argument and if it's started too soon after the emulator/evince then it will fail and not map anything.

What I'm using that works (where path.to.doc and docname.ext refer to some arbitrary document) is:
Quote:#!/bin/bash
killall -STOP xbmc.bin
evince --presentation "path.to.doc" & sleep 5 && joy2key "docname.ext" -config evince
wait
killall -CONT xbmc.bin

My only problem is that the fixed 5 second pause isn't ideal. I had it at 3 seconds initially, but it failed a couple times (I think only when loading cbz/cbr files which makes some sense). Ideally though, I'd like a solution that keeps the delay in starting joy2key to a minimum and that I know with near absolutely certainty will map the keys as desired.

Earlier today, I thought I'd gotten it working with:
Quote:#!/bin/bash
killall -STOP xbmc.bin
EXITSTATUS=-1
evince --presentation "path.to.doc" & until $EXITSTATUS == 0 (wiki); do
sleep 1
joy2key "docname.ext" -config evince
EXITSTATUS=$?
done
wait
killall -CONT xbmc.bin

(I've also tried the above both with and without the wait command.)

What it's supposed to do is keep trying to run joy2key, once a second, until the exitcode for joy2key is returned as 0 (meaning it found the indicated window). It actually worked fine when launched as a standalone file and even if I open XBMC, but run the script independently, it pauses and resumes XBMC just fine.

If I launch it from within advanced launcher, it loads the document/game and joy2key correctly maps the button(s) (immediately). Unfortunately, after exiting the emulator/evince, it never resumes XBMC. Even more, if I manually resume XBMC (with killall -CONT) and select another game/document, it freezes on a black screen, doesn't respond to any input and requires a hard reboot.

Potentially worth noting is that because I need to use different programs for files under the same file launcher (either to use different emulators for different games, or to use the document viewer for a game's manual/guide), I'm using the following dummy launcher. With the above error, the process for this script doesn't appear to close even after joy2key and the document/emulator do:
Quote:#!/bin/bash
sh "$1"
wait

Sorry for being so long winded. Figuring this out isn't especially important, but I'm pretty much clueless here and only put together the above by with google. What's really throwing me off is that it works fine if launched from outside xbmc and doesn't from within. If looking at it, you think you know the problem, I'd appreciate the feedback.

Also, I've proofread this post several times, but I keep coming across sentences that just don't make any sense. I'm just about asleep already, so sorry if there's still some gibberish mixed in.

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - SwedishGojira - 2012-10-24

I also have a feature request for Advance Launcher. When adding whole romsets to a launcher the list can get quite big and it would be nice if you could somehow group the items under a launcher in folders, or groups that behave like folders. It would be nice if you could even add a single item to several of these groups.
I'm not a programmer or even a scripter so I don't know how har this would be.

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - Angelscry - 2012-10-24

Here is version 1.10.4 : http://xbmc-advanced-launcher.googlecode.com/files/plugin.program.advanced.launcher-1.10.4.zip

Do not found time yet, but the repository will be updated when I will have access to my computer. This version add a small delay (1000ms) before Advanced Launcher start an application. It will avoid problem (freeze, XBMC black screen, etc...) that occurs when XBMC start an application too quickly. It will also add the same delay before restoring XBMC. This may fix focus problem occurring under Windows. The delay could be adjusted between 100ms and 2000ms under advanced options.

Image

Default delay value is 1000ms. You can lower it to speed up the application star. 500ms is a good value. On my system I was able to lower it until 300ms. Under this value I encounter freeze, XBMC black screen problems, but it could be different under your system.

As I have repeat millions of time : Advanced Launcher is an applications launcher, not a roms manager. If you want to use a roms manager under XBMC I can suggest you to use RCB addon.
Now, if you have difficulties to found a specific item, Advanced Launcher include a search engine :

Can you try version 1.10.4, that deal on execution delays from XBMC, and tell me if it fix your freezes and black screen problems? Concerning your last script... just a suggestion (not tested) :

Code:
#!/bin/bash
sh "$1" &
wait

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - NTolerance - 2012-10-24

Has anyone been able to get 1.10.4 or other recent versions to launch any external program on Frodo using Linux? I've tried to launch simple test scripts that might just open gedit or suspend XBMC, but all I see is the screen flickering. I don't see any evidence that the script or program is actually executed.

Which Frodo GIT build version are you using? Which linux version are you running? Could you post your xbmc.log file?
