Well I was just about to post and say it appears to be fixed but I tried to change and overwrite some art in my Mame launcher and got the error again. This time it just knocked out the first few lines.

The error at the end crashed XBMC after I set the launcher delay to 100ms
Thank for the report... Bad new it is not yet fixed....Sad I have to understand now WHY the launchers.xml file is corrupted at its begining an not, like most of the time, at its end.... Pleae could you confirm me that after the bug, the begining of the launchers.xml file is filed with spaces and and the first visible character is a ">".... because... heuuu... that's do not have any sens. The launchers.xml file is writed line by line. I can understand that first lines could be replaced by spaces... but not that a line was partially written... Undecided

For the delay, If you do not have a fast computer and if the value is to small.... XBMC will effectively crash. Set the value to 1000ms... then decrease it to slowly until it not crash. For example on my different systems :

Windows 8 Laptop -> delay of 0 ms is ok.
Archlinux Laptop -> delay of 100 ms is ok.
Archlinux HTPC -> delay of 300 ms is ok.

The idea is to reduce to a maximum the delay between the moment of start the application and the moment you switch to this application. This delay was added since Frodo.... With Eden use delay was never needed.

I can confirm this works. I'm not a huge fan of pulseaudio, but this is a workaround.

You need to set your audio playback preferences in XBMC to pulseaudio.
Are you also be able to make it works using HDMI? I was able to make it work on my linux laptop system (using analogic output) but not on my linux HTPC system (using HDMI output).

Yes, I only use HDMI for audio output. I have not tested analog or optical audio out.

Ok... thanks. So I have to dig more on my HTPC system to discover why XBMC do not have sound when pulseaudio is active.

I have no idea what is going on with my Advanced Launcher. I am running the latest version, and just as I was manually updating images to a game I started getting python errors...then I went back to the Advanced Launcher main screen and all of my launchers were gone.

Version 1.11.2:
This new version of Advanced Launcher attempt again to fix the problem of launchers.xml file corruption (empty saved file) during thumbs and image scraping. It add new error images when the scraping is not possible (timeout/no images found) and add a launchers.xml file statut check before read/write it. But here again, I'm not sure the problem is really fixed.

Changelog:
  • Add error message display for image scraping
  • Add file statut check during launcher.xml file saving/editing

hello angel, some times ago I posted about launcher that disapeared, I don't know if that help but I quote that post ( and I think there are some others maybe some with log, I don't remember ) about this problem since many user have come up with the same problem recently...just to say it's not a new problem so maybe their something hiding in the code for a long time and not especialy in the last version of your ( great ) add on, if I'm correct I got this problem with eden but not with darma, since then I had this bug again ( not that not all my launcher disapear but just some of them ) but now I make regulary back up of my launcher.xml to avoid this problem, maybe a temporaly fix would be to make an automatic copy of the old launcher before anything is change to the current one ,like launcher.old, with an option to put it back if their was a problem...maybe it's silly, I don't know...anyway I hope it help ( even a little)

No, no... that's not a silly idea. Actually I'm trying to see what is going wrong, trying to fix any possible errors. My problem actually is that the bug do not occurs at any time, and it is complicated to reproduce it. I can spend more than 1 hour, editing/deleting/creating/scraping launcher and items without any problem... and suddenly... the content of the launchers. xml file it empty. But even with the XBMC debug mode activated, I cannot see any reported error. The error that everybody report me actually is due to the fact that the launchers.xml file is empty... The error message is not the cause, but the consequence.

So, the idea to make backup of the launchers.xml file once it is modified have reach my mind. I think that's what I'm going to work on now. It will avoid user to completely lost their data, and give me time to definitively fix this bug.

I'm really sorry for all the problem bring by this bug. If any of you have an idea what could happen... an help will be really welcome.

I don't really think that it is related but the difficulty to reproduce this issue reminded me of an issue that I have in RCB. Maybe the problem only occurs if saving the file is done at the same time as some other process in XBMC is working. Maybe some service addons, widgets, pvr tasks, anything like this. That would explain why it only happens every x times. Just an idea.

If you are interested, the RCB issue is described here. Although I don't think it is the same actuator.

The Advanced Launcher autobackup feature is actually functional. I just Have to add some options to control it.

Version 1.12.0: Since I do not clearly understand why the launchers.xml file was randomly deleted, this new version of Advanced Launcher add autobackup support. This option is activated by default but could always be desactivated from the Advanced Launcher settings menu.

The autobackup feature automatically make a backup of the launchers.xml file each time you add/delete/edit a launcher or an item. You have the possibility to define the number of backup file to be saved, from 5 to 100 (default 10). Finally you have an option to load directly from Advanced Launcher any backuped launchers.xml.

Changelog:
  • Add launchers.xml file autobackup.
  • Add an option to activate/desactivate autobackup.
  • Add an option to define the number of keeped backup files (5-100).
  • Add an option to load/restore a backup file.

Anyway to make a link to load from CD for emulators?

eg It's all well and good having ePSXe 1.8.0 loading a cue (or Bin if it fails on cue) but some games work better when on disc (or mounted) and It'd be great to have 'Load CD' shortcut in the rom list. A good example being Tomb Raider 1+2, couldn't get it to play from hard drive, works fine from my actual disc.

ePSXe loads from disc by default with just the -nogui argument, but I'm sure other system emulators have other options if load from cd drive is supported. So anyway to override the launcher default arguments options?

Failing that I guess some form of script to mount a .cue first then load that virtual drive into the emulator

I know.... I'm into the same boat than you. I try my possible to fix the problem. But the more I try, the more I starting to think that the problem come from XBMC itself and not from the Advanced Launcher code.

You just have to create a a .bat or autoit script that will automatically mount the CD image file before starting the emulator and that will unmout it once the emulator is closed. Here is a script example : http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7

Purely a cosmetic concern here...

My wife likes Windows Media Center, so (within Aeon Nox) I created a custom button that launches to the WMC guide, no splash. When I click the button, XBMC switches to windowed mode, then back to full screen, the WMC launches. Is there some setting that I need to change to skip the first couple steps and just launch WMC over XBMC? Just looking for a smoother transition.

p.s. I tried using "full screen window" instead of true full screen. It did the same thing.

Hey guys. Hope you can help me. I wanted to get completely off of 7MC and use XBMC. Now that Frodo is released I have integrated LiveTV.

Next thing was me integrating the HuluDesktop, as I don't really like the functionality of the xbmc hulu app.

One thing I did when I was on Eden, was I created a shortcut that pointed to a autohotkey launcher that would hide and freeze xbmc then launch my app. Once I exited the app, then it would unhide and unfreeze xbmc.

I had integrated the Kylo browser with this method and, now with Frodo out, was just about to do it with HuluDesktop. However now I noticed that the the kylo and hulu won't launch anymore.

The shortcuts still work, if I click them with my mouse, but ADVLauncher throws an error if I choose them there.
