[RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - ktjensen - 2014-01-03

Will advanced launcher work with android under the OUYA platform? Has anyone tested that? There is a built in android app launcher in the confluence skin for XBMC with OUYA. But it has problems if you want to customize it.

Know android is some weird version of Linux at one time. But not sure if it can work. So asking.

Yes, Advanced Launcher works under Android. Advanced Launcher uses command line to start application. Here is an example with Firefox : http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=624

You cannot directly start application. You need first to start them through the applications manager (am) with root privilege (su). But, the most difficult part is to found the right command line to start the applications or the right command line to start items through applications. Because you will not found any documentation about how to do it.

Angelscry - yes can understand what you state. Likely would need some process monitor tool to find the command line equivalent for any app that starts under android. Not sure I have the motivation to give that a go. But good to note it can be done with superuser access and application monitor.

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - Bedwyr - 2014-01-04

I'm having trouble with the scrapers when making a launcher: thumbnails and fanart do not display by default. From what I can tell, game information is downloaded correctly and images are properly located, but they're just not being displayed unless I go in and manually edit each file. That tells me at least that I'm using the correct console and the first scraper is working. I'm using Aeon MQ 5 skin if that makes any difference. I've tried and observed the following:

First, I have thumbnails and screenshots already saved locally the way I want them and for each of the following scraper settings create a new launcher and attempt to add-items.

1. info - GamesDB, automatic; thumbs - GamesDB, automatic, do not overwrite; fanart - GamesDB, automatic, do not overwrite
2. info - GamesDB, automatic; thumbs - Google, automatic, do not overwrite; fanart - Google, automatic, do not overwrite
3. info - GamesDB, automatic; thumbs - local images, GamesDB; fanart - local images, GamesDB

In each case, the games are detected, but images are not displayed. If I edit the game and try to re-import scraper data for it, the default images appear to have the correct image and directory but aren't displaying the image.

Second, I copied the image directories and created new, blank directories and tried the following:

1. info - GamesDB, automatic; thumbs - GamesDB, automatic, do not overwrite; fanart - GamesDB, automatic, do not overwrite
1. info - GamesDB, automatic; thumbs - GamesDB, automatic, overwrite; fanart - GamesDB, automatic, overwrite

In each case it appears the scrapers are doing their job in downloading images, but they are still not being displayed. I still have to go into each game and manually link the local image for display to work.

That's what I've troubleshooted so far. Could this be a skin issue or something else?

Update: when editing thumbnails manually, all games following the updated thumbnail will display the same image.

Update update: Yup. Closing XBMC and re-opening must have gotten the skin to correctly cache the images. It looks like Aeon MQ's fault.

That not skin problem. It's a problem related to XBMC, that do not update the cached images correctly when we force the skin refresh. The only way to reelly update them is to close and restart XBMC. To really convenient I know.

If you can't figure out a way, I would not worry too much. I just needed to know what's happening.

One question though. I saw you answer someone in another forum about mapping alt-f4 to a remote so one could exit the emulator (let's say snes9x) and return to XBMC without a keyboard. The advice was for XBMCbuntu though. Do you have any suggestions for methods in Windows? (i.e.- Is there preferred software that plays well with external programs and advanced launcher)?

For windows systems, I strongly suggest you to use EventGhost.

I'm getting an error that says "Script failed!: addon.py"

Upon checking the log it appears to be looking for a launchers.xml file.

There is no launchers.xml file in the whole recursive search of the xbmc folder that I've got xbmc installed in. I run it with the -p switch on Windows 7 Pro 64 if it makes a difference. Is there a way to get a copy of a generic launchers.xml file?

The launchers.xml file is normally automatically created, the first time you start Advanced Launcher, into the user data folder (userdata/addon_data/plugin.program.advanced.launcher/launchers.xml). Then is was always used by Advanced Launcher to store all the categories, launchers and items information. If, as you wrote it, the script error is really related to the fact that the add-on cannot found the launchers.xml file (I cannot confirm it without seeing the content of the xbmc.log file) so it could be due to the fact that XBMC do not have the necessary rights to write the file into the userdata/addon_data directory.

According to this post, for the portable version the userdata folder will be located into the portable_data folder within the XBMC directory. Now the questions are. Does the launchers.xml file iis located into the portable_data folder. If not, does the XBMC user have the necessary rights to create/write into this directory? If not, have you try to start XBMC as administrator?

Start Metro-style apps - New method - Angelscry - 2014-01-06

Start Metro-style apps - New method

Here is a new method to start Metro-style apps from Advanced Launcher (thanks to wolfodeiwolfy). The idea is to create file shortcuts (.lnk) of these apps using the OblyTile applications, and then, start these file shortcuts (.lnk) like any other file shortcuts (.lnk) with Advanced Launcher.

The explaination and tutorial are on the corresponding Advanced Launcher wiki page : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Metro-style_apps

RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC - mortarkombat - 2014-01-06

Updated to advanced launcher 2.2.2, and now old video games (.lnk) do not work. I am aware of old launcher problem, and tried this rollback method. These games are all on my PC. I tried to add new .lnk, and that worked! In other words, Street fighter IV works (see xbmc.log below). Forced does starts, and closes by itself. magicka has a sound error.

My launcher appears fine. Here it is as proof:

My xbmc log:

So, why do new games work and old ones do not?
