The original post in this thread was very convenient when it was regularly updated. The thread is now 20 pages long; hardly "at a glance" any longer :-)

original post is still up-to-date for the last official iOS release (10.0-7). It's not been updated in a long time because there hasn't been an official release in a long time

Is it possible to access CIFS or NFS shares with XBMC? I wonder if that would help with the SMB issues.

What's the practical difference between a CIFS share and an SMB share?

As for NFS, doesn't seem to be an nfs client on the atv2. Some folks have installed it on for other XBMC platforms though, not sure if it works on iOS:

As an iOS developer mostly iPad. Is there any reason that I can not download source and Xcode project and build and test on ipad2 without the need to jailbreak the iPad or is there a specific need to jailbreak?

You'd need to jailbreak because otherwise you cannot access the video toolbox.

pecinko Wrote:Q: How do I bring up the OSD during playback on the ATV2?
A: On the Apple Remote press and hold select.

I'm just curious why "press and hold select" was chosen to bring up the onscreen display? I use the OSD fairly often and have found that this process is hit and miss -- half the time, I just end up pausing playback (could be due to my RF universal remote).

Wouldn't the UP arrow be a more natural way to access the OSD? I don't think the UP arrow is currently being used during playback, though I could be wrong...

I'm afraid I can't answer your question of why press and hold select was chosen for the OSD function because I don't know!

But you might find the keymap.xml from this thread useful. It's the one I use, and if you have problems with the default setup it might be a good alternative for you too. With this keymap then the OSD is brought up by a single click of the select button. Play/Pause functionality is not lost because of the dedicated play/pause button. It also has the bonus of adding 10 min forward and backward steps by pressing up and down - great for quickly skipping through a film.

I was just about to mention that too. I use my up button for a 10 min jump. I find it very useful.

Nice! Thanks for the pointing me in the right direction Smile

I love XBMC. I do understand it still has issues but is there anyway to display a error message instead of a XBMC crash?

Kind of a silly question. I'm sure the developers are working to eliminate any crashes they can. They can't see the future though, i.e. there'll always be new crashes.

Librtmp - jimipoppa - 2011-05-25

Is there a way to update librtmp on the AppleTV 2?
If so, any easy instructions?

There's no easy way to update librtmp in XBMC, but if there's a later version than whats compiled you can try to swap out the package and recompile entire XBMC.
If you're using the official builds, the unofficial ones have a later librtmp version, but if the goal is hulu I don't think it's supported in the latest librtmp even.

I have previously run XBMC on an original xbox and the .iso playback is phenomenal. I currently have my entire library in .iso's and converting them to a playable format would be pretty troublesome. I just bought an atv2 because of the need/desire for a replacement method of playback. Does anyone know of a rough timeline for .iso support? I saw early on in the post that it is something that is intended to be worked on in the future and I am just wondering if it is at all a priority.

Thanks,
