Playing ALAC music causes the GUI to lock up although the music continues to play. Doesn't seem to become responsive after the music finishes.

Hi

Possible bug: Some mkv files with subtitiles crash XBMC

While I would consider buying an ATV if some of these issues are solved, I suspect that skins like aeon MQ2 will never really work on this device. I have some experience with skins and media streamers and what I've learned is that it takes a capable machine to make it work well (especially fluently). 1080p decoding is only a start really...

Bummed at no 1080p. It should be made more clear when they talk about streaming 1080p. Thats a killer for projector setup.

We do, we say 1080p decode and don't mention 1080p display. The two are different thing. Why in fact in your post you even say "Bummed at no 1080p", it should be "Bummed at no 1080p display". Details matter to keep others from making incorrect assumptions.

Sure, but generally when someone mentions 1080p they are talking about 1920x1080 displayed pixels. Bummed at no 1080p and Bummed at no 1080p display are exactly the same thing. It would be like advertising that a 480x320 video is playing at 720p because its up converted and doesnt have black borders surrounding it.
Dont get me wrong, I love this project. I've been sadly missing my xbox 1 and XMBC since the day I got a 1080p projector. I was really hoping this was a solution and that a way to trick the ATV2 into real 1080p was possible. We all know Apple is notorious for crippling devices so I figures this was just another lame Apple software issue.
Anyway, I think any mention of 1080 is misleading. One would naturally assume a 720p device could play something encoded at 1080 just with obviously less resolution. One wouldnt necessarily think the opposite.

it's not misleading at all, it's important that ios can at least handle a 1080p file regardless of output. knowing it can handle 1080p at least tells everyone the hardware is capable

- Hidd3nFury - 2011-01-29

It would be much more misleading to say 720p only. This would suggest that the atv2 would only play 720p which is not true. If you read carefully it is very clear that it decodes 1080p but doesn't display it. Not to mention the hundreds of other threads on the subject.

No SSA and ASS subtitle support they either don't show or the fonts are all messed up.

That's why if you look at my posts, I always say 1080p decode Smile And I always remind users that decode resolution has nothing to do with display resolution. They are two different things.

- vike105 - 2011-01-30

It's still important that the apple tv 2 can decode 1080p because there are people that have their libraries full of 1080p files, and while they might have an htpc that can output 1080 to a display, they might want to purchase the apple tv 2 to hook up to a tv they dont care for 1080p. Therefore it is important that we state that the apple tv 2 can decode 1080p, but will only output 720p.

In fact it does say it in the wiki:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_for_Mac_on_Apple_TV#Really_Frequently_Asked_Questions_and_Answers

I updated the wiki to reflect this the day it was released for iOS.

It's very specific about decoding 1080p and displaying up to 720p.

I think we need to put this into perspective...

The XBMC project is probably one of the best Media Centres I have seen (including commercial offerings from Popcorn Hour, Divco, etc) and the fact that it has been ported to iOS is pretty cool in itself...

XBMC running on ATV2 ticks a number of boxes for me when it comes to a Media Player for the Bedroom:
a) It is inexpensive
b) It is quiet (an absolute must)
c) It can be synced with my main media library
d) It is easy to use (must be wife proof)

Finally, as an open source project, if you don't like something you can help fix, modify and extend XBMC for the benefit of everyone...

So rather than complain why don't you pitch in and help make XBMC even better than it already is...

1080p - precator - 2011-02-02

In the future will XBMC for ATV2 be able to display in 1080p? Or is it a limitation on the ATV2 device itself?
