For the record subtitles work fine for me.

SSA subtitles do not work.

I've just jailbroken my iPod Touch 4g via Greenpois0n and installed the latest XBMC. When I launch XBMC it's "squished" and only spans about 2/3 of the screen horizontally. I've poked around a bit and can't seem to find any way to get into settings to change the resolution. Everything on this iPod is at its defaults - XBMC is the only app I've installed post-jailbreak, not counting Cydia. Here's a pic: http://imgur.com/NAzYX - Anything I should try to do to fix this? I've seen mention of ssh'ing in and deleting some config files but I figured I'd post here first to help the devs in case it's a new issue.

rotate your touch so that the long axis is horizontal. now launch xbmc.

Heh, sorry I missed that detail. It looks the same horizontally, see http://www.imgur.com/a7RM8.jpg

Now, the first time I launched xbmc my ipod was locked in portrait mode... I wonder if this is a bug?

yes.

Ok, thanks. Is there an article on how to uninstall? Or do I just hit the x like any normal iOS app? I haven't been able to find any good info in my searches. I'd like to uninstall and reinstall with portrait mode unlocked and see if it fixes things.

I'm not sure if the X works, but through cydia you should be able to remove the app.
You can also do 'apt-cache search xbmc' and take the exact xbmc package name and do 'apt-get remove (package name of xbmc)' from command line.

Thank you. Just pushing a reinstall of xbmc-ios from Cydia (without even uninstalling) seems to have fixed my issue.

I see you already got things working but fyi, Cydelete might get rid of it but probably more thorough to ssh into the device and do something like:

# dpkg -l | grep -i xbmc
(gives a list of packages to remove, likely the ones below)
# apt-get remove org.xbmc.repo org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 org.xbmc.xbmc-seatbeltunlock

Any news on SSA subs working ?

Can anyone explain to me why SSA over SRT? I thought SRT is the newer format and I can vouch that SRT subtitles work with the latest XBMC. I know that I have seen video files downloaded with a file in each format and I usually discard the SSA and simply keep the SRT file. Seems to work fine for me but perhaps I am missing something.

BTW, if you don't have a lot of SSA subtitles, you can try using a convertor program to convert SSA to the SRT format.

Alternatively, you can probably find and download the proper SRT file for your video by searching the internet for it.

Lastly, have you tried the built in (or maybe via a plugin, I foget) function of XBMC to download a subtitle file for your video within XBMC itself. I think it requires you setting a location for the downloaded subtitle file to be save to but worth a look into if subtitling is important for you.

Good luck.

Edited to add: Davilla and team is aware of the SSA issue and have reproduced the problem. See this post and the parent thread for more history: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=722058&postcount=29

SSA sub are for Anime Fansubs they allow for positioning all over the screen fancy effects ect...Converting them to SRT doesn't 99% of the time due to screen positioning.

Very annoying not having SSA subs working.

So far though overall good work.

Have you tried putting in the computers username/password? (If you don't have one set, might one to try setting one and still set it to not require it to login).
