Oh, well alrighty then.

Glad to hear a fix is in the works. Xbmc has really breathed new life into my ATV2. Such an incredibly powerful piece of software. No doubt owed to the great community behind it Smile

I'm testing this build since a few hours now without any issues. Even the Harmony is working great.
But one question: Is there a way to set up "Up" as BigstepForward and "Down" as BigstepBack in addition? I do not use a joystick.AppleRemote.xml and my knowledge about that file is way to poor Sad

(sorry for being off topic)

Check this thread out for remote changes with your bigstep forward / back

Yes i've seen that thread already. But when i try to implement BigstepForward and BigstepBack by myself, i resolve the same slow down stuttering playback as some users reported with this build. So i guess i messed something up in the joystick.AppleRemote.xml. That's why i asked how to add it properly.

Maetrik,
I don't understand your second sentence. Could you make sure you conveyed your meaning correctly or fix any typos that may be there?

It sounds like you are saying that when you add the BigStep commands to your joystick.AppleRemote.xml, you begin to experience stuttery playback?

- Maetrik - 2011-03-05

Yes, i tested the last build from keith and everything went fine, playback was perfect as usual (XviD, 720p .mvk, 1080p .mkv). My Harmony remote also worked fine, i just wanted to add BigStepForward and BigStepBack to the joystick.AppleRemote.xml. After doing that and a restart of XBMC i tried to use the new buttons but nothing happened. Then i tried the "normal" Harmony buttons like seeking and it end up in that slow motion playback some other members mentioned here. I'm not sure if it really has to do with the .xml file, but after copying back the orginal one (and restart of XBMC) everything was fine again.

EDIT: Ok i got that weird slow mow playback again, it does not seem to be related to my changes, it seems that it has to do with fastforward/fastbackward. After a about 30sek slow motion video, it freezes. Here is my debug.log (I deleted my customized xml already but ran into same issues when using the Harmony remote for fastforward/fastbackward)

@Maetrik,
Was about to comment but saw that you got it working. Good for you. Smile

- Maetrik - 2011-03-05

Well, i got the buttons working, but on fastforward/fastbackward using the harmony's << and >> buttons i retrieved the same slowmotion playback as others mentioned. see my debug log, i hope that helps

Maybe add this issue to the 'xbmc for IOS current issues' sticky thread since it has been confirmed by multiple users.

It seems like it has something to do with the rework audio to get the 2.0 downmixing working that was commited on Feb 27th.

A built of the Feb 24th with just the remote code addition doesn't exhibit this problem. The audio does a better job of playing right away after your complete your fast forward.

This is what I noticed, if you fastfwd at 2x, the audio is silent during the fastfwd. But if you continue clicking to go into 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, the audio returns, but is stuck in a loop. I think this makes extra work for XBMC in trying to sync the audio to the video frame, saturating the CPU cycle and/or buffer.

Once you click play again, it takes a few secs before the video and audio syncs up again. During this time, you see slow video frame rate. For the most part, on my ATV2, it last a few seconds...and then resume as normal. For others that may have slow networks, smb issues, or other ailments, it freezes and never returns.

BTW, these problems only exist on the nightly, unofficial build. So they shouldn't be added to the FAQ thread IMHO.

Contrast all this to the Feb 24th build, I can fastfwd at 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x and upon pressing play, picture and audio plays right away...all synced up. Just perfect.

Of course, the downmixing problem is still there. Smile

Anyways, those are my observations so far. Anyone else try fastfwding at only 2x and see if it works without the rebuffering/slow framerate issue?

BTW, this particular issue only affect the unofficial nightly build. So I don't think it should be added to the stickied FAQ thread.

I just wanted to upgrade to the 27th Feb 2011 nightly, but the os x terminal said: "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 9 not upgraded."

Image

Installed on my aTV2 is a (pre-)build of 19th(?) Feb 2011... Any idea? Or had I use the file for iOS?

- swissfraser - 2011-03-05

Sunnyynnus, you need to run the dpkg on the file that you downloaded (org.xmbc...), NOT the url.

New build is up, do the following:

# cd /private/var/tmp
# wget http://hadm.net/~keith/xbmc_atv2/org.xbmc-030511_atv2-arm.deb
# dpkg -i org.xbmc-030511_atv2-arm.deb

Damn, you ppl are fast. We're still testing so I wouldn't recommend installing the new build yet.

That is fine, i created a video with this build to show the slowdown that started since the previous build, which you guys did not catch but many other users did, hopefully this will help
