Just use a GT430 and openELEC (which is a tiny tiny tiny Linux + XBMC) and you won't have to worry about anything.

I've looked over the HTPC recommendations and quite a few other forums and have concluded my build on paper. Let me know if this works and if it all seems compatible as it will be my first time building a pc.

Thanks for any and all help.

Just curious about the switch to a 520 instead of the cheaper 430, any reason for switching in particular?

- eskro - 2011-06-13

gt520 is Fanless Low profile and costs $60!!

or Price after rebate: $49.99

- shadowchao - 2011-06-13

Ah well that does make sense about the fanless, but it's $10 more than the 430.
How similar is the performance between the two of them?

show me your gt430 deal

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=40000048&IsNodeId=1&Description=430&name=Desktop%20Graphics%20%2f%20Video%20Cards&Order=BESTMATCH

Newegg has more than one for 40 after rebate. Shipping is 3 or 7 though so depending on how well a 520 performs...

- Kirky99 - 2011-06-13

I found a thread that someone mentions the 520 doesn't do well with deinterlacing video compared to the 430. Does anyone with experience know if this is true? Doesn't matter to me too much, I have a 430, but the fanless is appealing. The Asus I received does make a little bit of noise...

- eskro - 2011-06-13

the Galaxy GT430 is not Low Profile and has a fan, costs $43 after rebate

Asus GT430 is Low Profile but has a fan, costs $46 after rebate

the EVGA GT430 is also Low Profile but also has a fan, costs $48 after rebate

for $4 more then an ASUS GT430,
or for $2 more then an EVGA GT 430,
you can get your hands on this $50 ASUS GT520 which is Fanless & Low Profile too!!
http://ow.ly/1tt4cn

so i dont see where you get that --> GT520 costs $10 more then a GT430

- eskro - 2011-06-13

if the GT520 has De-interlacing issues, and thats a if,
that can definitely be corrected by a futur Driver updates,,,,
i wouldnt worry at all,,,
