Yeah, we need a Frodo version. I want to start skinning, but can't without frodo foundation.

Yes, you can.

I'm new at xbmc skinning and I find this answer frustrated.

You can even pick confluence skin as base. Don't expect a step by step guide. There are a lot of people here helping out each other. If you have questions just ask.

first of all, thank you for the Foundation skin - it has made it easier for me to get into skin development.

I have been in the process of creating a skin for a while now, but now that Frodo is coming out, I am worried as to how to make it fully compatible... I have seen the sticky "changes to the skinning engine" obviously, but am still unsure as to how to proceed....the new InfoLabels and the rest is fine, its the removal and addition of new default pages and controls that worry me..

Do you have any suggestions on the best way to change everything?
Are you planning on updating Foundation for Frodo?

I did this for the Neon skin without any experience by:
- starting with each change,
- reading what was changed and why,
- looking in the code to see if Neon used that,
- changing accordingly.

You can learn a lot about how these new pages are used by looking at other Frodo skins. Confluence is a great example.

Hitcher,

I am still using Eden and was looking to start skinning with your foundation link, but when I click the dropbox link you provided, I get a 404 error. Any chance of a mirror or new link?

I think you can download it from Hitcher's repository : http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=119232

I've just started trying to play around with the foundation skin but I've already hit a wall for something that I suspect is very, very basic but I just can't seem to figure out.

I'm editing home.xml at first and I'm trying to set a global background for the skin which I presume is covered by the GlobalBackground include in includes.xml. I'm editing the following control without success.

PHP Code:
            <control type="image">
                <include>
Dimensions_Fullscreen</include>
                <
texture border="2">other_textures/black-back.png</texture>
            </
control

I'm replacing black-back.png with the background of my choice by nada. What schoolboy error am I making here?

Anyone free to point me in the right direction? Huh

RE: Skinning for beginners - Foundation skin, skinning tools, and tips - Hitcher - 2013-02-27 20:28

Have you put it in the other_textures folder?

I usually use tail to keep an eye on the log file while I am working.

I only started skinning recently and am ' learning on the job' but that, and the ability to bind a key to reload the skin has helped me immensely.

Yeah, mapping 2 keys, reload skin and minimize xbmc are very useful.
