You were referencing a file that didn't exist. The last line should have been:

dpkg -i latest_atv2.deb

I was blindly just copying and pasting, so that was my bad.

dtviewer Wrote:Thanks Davilla for chipping in....but could you tell me what was in my instructions that was incorrect that caused the problem?

Thanks in advance....

I guess the naming convention had been changed from using serial number file name to latest_atv2.deb. Used to be that way.

- ptodic - 2011-04-05

Nightly build 4/1 and 4.3.1 JB-ed with Seas0npass:

1. Sound OK
2. SMB OK
3. Subtitles NOT SHOWING
4. Seeking into movie NOT WORKING if you press constantly

Thanks....I wonder when or why the change came about.
Sorry for the confusion.

- dazex - 2011-04-06

That change came about so that "latest_atv2.deb" will always refer to the latest nightly.

Hi all,

I just tried the nightly build on the pawnage tool jailbreak --> no solution. I guess I will try the Seasonpass tomorrow.

Regards,

Minima

Nothing to do with above, did you install NitoTv after Seas0npass?

- johnviz - 2011-04-06

Yes, the only thing the jailbreak installs is OpenSSH. Which allows you to SSH in and install NitoTV.

As long as i can ssh in, I can install xbmc. I'm wondering why i have to install NitoTV.

Ok, couldn't stop myself and did a complete walkthrough that provides:
- A) a unthethered jailbreak
- B) working XBMC, with audio and smb

1) Jailbreak your AppleTV with Seas0nPass according to the following jailbreak:
http://support.firecore.com/entries/387605

2) Log into you AppleTV via ssh:
$ ssh root@<your ATV2 IP address>

root@<your ATV2 IP address>'s password: ''enter your password here, it should be "alpine" if you haven't changed it''

3) Add the missing repository and make update on the AppleTV:
$ echo "deb http://apt.saurik.com/ tangelo-3.7 main">/etc/apt/sources.list.d/saurik.list
$ apt-get update
$ apt-get -f install

4) Install the latest nightly build from xbmc:
a - $ wget http://hadm.net/~keith/xbmc_atv2/latest_atv2.deb
(then hit enter and wait until its done)
b - $ dpkg -i xbmc_atv2/latest_atv2.deb
(then hit enter and wait until its done)

5) Just to make sure that all dependencies have been installed properly:
$ apt-get -f install

6) Change your root password because the default password is no secret
$ passwd
<new password>
<new password>

7) close the ssh connection and enjoy XBMC on your AppleTV

Don't you need to pre-install stable version of xbmc before updating to nightly? Are those missing repository necessary for xbmc?

ldi9999 Wrote:Are those missing repository necessary for xbmc?

I am not sure, but I had the missing dependency issue in my first try. I just put them in because this ensures that it works. Feel free to try without adding them Big Grin

Let me know if it is this one or if it is another file you're looking for. I installed the latest nightly build but I have the same problem.

I can tell you that I installed the latest nightly build on my freshly jailbroken iPad (4.3.1) without preinstalling the stable version. I will wait a little while longer before updating ATV (currently running 4.2.1).

Thanks for posting this! To update each time to the latest nightly XBMC build, I assume you only need to issue the commands in step 4 each time? Or is it better to remove XBMC first and then issue the commands in step 4? Thanks.
