Changes in the latest Nightly Build - Redrum - 2011-04-17

Yesterday I tried the latest nightly build (16-apr-2011) of XBMC for Windows and I noticed some changes in Confluence.

Most importantly I noticed that there are no view-specific options anymore. I normally used the fanart view for TV-Shows with show info hidden, but I can't find the option to hide it now.

Are these changes final?

- Jezz_X - 2011-04-17

Kind of yeah I can probably add a option to remove it in that view because I can understand why people might want to hide it. (or just make a whole new view with no info)
But the goal of the changes was to simplify the whole thing and remove all the extra hard to understand / hidden options from those windows and unify the theme of the skin

Other than that do you like the changes ? I know its going to be tough love for some people but I think once they get used to it, it will be for the best in the long run

I really like how you changed the 2 media-info views. Since I use xbmc mostly for tv-shows, I use those views for season and episode selection and I think the new look is definitively an improvement.

For the show selection, instead, I don't really need any other info except for the title, so the info window just covers the fanart without adding anything important, IMHO.

It's not a major issue, but if you can add the option to remove it i would appreciate it.

I haven't seen the skin but that sounds like a very good idea, I think xbmc as a whole is a little overwhelming for new users, so anything that can be simplified without sacrificing usability is a good thing IMO.

I tried it myself and I really like the attention to details (I like the reflection). Thinking of simplification and using the remote control in mind, you thought to include the remote control buttons "Red, Blue, Yellow, Green"to perform certain actions?
I'm using tvheadend as video source and I was happy to found a "TV Guide" view, but for my country, Italy, the EPG description shown is the short version, not the full one. It's the same issue described here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=695045&postcount=1645

I I know that my english is far good... No

Hi Jezz_X, it's possible to use the 'new confluence' skin in dharma build, or there is a (lot of) change of code in xbmc ?

- Jezz_X - 2011-04-19

Nah it wont work properly with dharma at all, all the addons stuff and recently added has changed as well as many other things since dharma

- henrava - 2011-04-19

Thanks Jezz_x, i will try the nightly builds in a separate installation.

- dtviewer - 2011-04-19

I love it!
Thanks for all the work...my favorite skin is better than ever.

The only thing i miss is the option to switch to a horizontal home menu.

- bandelguy - 2011-04-19

+1, for optional horizontal home menu.

- Jezz_X - 2011-04-19

As much as a horizontal menu might look good it fits into "remove all the extra hard to understand / hidden options from those windows and unify the theme" section.

As much as people may not like it because it is the default skin confluence needs to be easy to understand and not have a bunch of options or extra things that rely on 3rd party scripts too work (cinema experience)

People need to be just able to use it and not need a learning curve or to add or install extra thumbs/scripts to work proper

I know it sucks but thats my stand on it

Probably what you say is right for the 'extra stuff', but confluence is the reference, the mother of all skins; is there a possibility for the horizontal confluence, nothing more, specially for the noobs (such as myself) ?
Anyway, thanks for your efforts.

What I did is saved a copy of Confluence with the horizontal menu to my computer and I just use WinScp and re-install it whenever I need to.

I started working on one again today (more AEON Syle) for fun no promises it will make it into main xbmc though because it will have to replace the current one they really can't live together easy and its a big change I will however release it as a mod when I finish doing it so you can play
