Hello,
Problem: I have a need to output both full quality sound/video over hdmi as well as audio 2.0 over toslink on the same xbmc setup.
Reason: I have a reciever setup with two zones. Zone 1 is the main tv/theater area with a 5.1 speaker setup. Zone 2 is a simple 2.0 speaker setup in another location. My reciever can transmit full digital signals to zone 1 but only 2.0 audio signals to zone 2.
Hardware:
Reciever: Dennon AVR-3310CI
XBMC machine: Zotac IONITX-A which has the Atom N330 chip etc etc.
What Works: I have the zotac hooked to the reciever via hdmi which then outputs to the tv. Everything seems to work great from zotac(hdmi) -> reiever -> tv/zone1. I get high quality audio and video performance is acceptable.
I can play radio signals from reciever -> zone 2, so I know that my zone 2 speakers are hooked up and the reciever can output audio to them.
What doesn't work: zotac (toslink) -> reciever -> zone 2
Config info:
Settings in XBMC Settings->System->Audio Output:
Audio Output: HDMI
Speaker Config: 5.1
Boost Volume Level on Downmix: selected
Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver: selected
DTS Capable Receiver: Selected
Audio output device: hdmi
Passthrough output device: custom
custom passthrough device: plug:both
I can provide other information as needed.
Thanks for your help
