these days you tend to get trailers (tv ads really) that show you the general theme of the show and the first episode it airs

No, XBMC doesn't have support for that atm.
BTW there is also no source to scrape these as far as I am concerned.

Already discussed many times. Status is that there is
1) no source to download from.
2) no real need.
3) TVDB already recognize some ads in its 'special' season.

just to let you know. a program called Media Center Master is implementing a TV series trailer downloader because one of its users requested it to use with media browsers new plugin that allows the trailers to be viewd as a background while looking at the episode details. I for one would like to see xbmc utilize TV series trailers it could show the newest episode trailer while your in the series details area or play the trailer for the episode your looking at. it also would be very useful for things like psudo-tv. anyone know if there has been renewed interest for this in xbmc recently and if so can you post a link to the discussion or site?

Problem is finding a source for the trailers. Best bet would be youtube, but lord knows how much trash it would pick up. Only thing I could see is perhaps for the devs to implement it so it's possible but without a scraper....
so if a trailer exists in the directory it plays it? So like

and perhaps allow for full season trailers so like in the root of the folder of the show

Hello,
I know this is an old post but here is my 2 cents and a one up to bring this back to life.
I just bought the entire Stargate SG-1 series (at Value Village ! woohoo $6.00 CDN/season) and am putting them on my NAS so I can view them with XBMC.
I have found that the DVDs include episode "teasers" or "trailers" that are 45ish seconds long ... You know, one show ends, commercial, commercial, "Next on (series name) , this happens that happens" , commercial, commercial, TV Show starts.
As with some of the above posts it would be very cool to implement a system where XBMC doesn't have to scrape but can use them if they are there.
Many thanks to teamXBMC for all the time and love they have (and still do) put into this project.

On Trakt.tv they seem to have trailers for TV shows. It might be somewhere to start with.
Example, True Detective:

I always check trailers/season promo videos when I try to find what new TV shows to watch next, so I would love this to be implemented on Kodi as well. Or maybe as an add-on?

TheMovieDB.org also have also begun to allow you to upload trailers for TV Series now, for both the whole shows as well as for seasons:

Since trailers for movies is in the default skin maybe implemented support for TV Shows trailers into Kodi's core and default skin too?

It would be great, to have TV show season trailers, for example in combination with TV Show Custom Season Names and custom description it would really create a increase in value of the information. ATM the TV season overview shows only the season covers, but is missing all kind of important information. You will never find a specific plot detail or story development by just looking at a cover. 
But a season trailer and/or additional titles/descriptions for the seasons would really make sense here.

Tvrage has TV trailers and promos next to the episodes in the episode lists. I would like this feature. I found an addon for kodi called tvpromos but it doesnt seem to work very well and i believe it uses youtube as its source.
