Step by Step manual to install XBMC to Newest 4.2.2(2203)

Hi,

1. Do I have to hook up to USB for this or does it work over wireless?

Tried over wireless and get this message:

2. iMac:~ user$ ssh [email protected]
ssh: connect to host 10.0.1.1 port 22: Connection refused

Anyone know what's going wrong here?

Thanks

Hello there,
thanks for this instructions worked well for me except the SeasonPass jailbreak which comes up with follwowing message:

Successfully entered DFU Mode.

Follow these steps to restore ...

1. Open iTunes and select the AppleTV from the sidebar .. HuhHuh?

Can anybody tell me if this really works in iTunes for Windows?

There is no chance for me after spending hours with this stuff to get or see an "AppleTV" entry within iTunes 10.2.2. I say that this could not work this way.

But anyway, could one tell me what I am doing wrong??

3. Select the Apple TV2.1_4.3_8F305_SP-Restore.ipsw file loated in My Documents.

Is there an other way to install this update?

Thanks for any help!

I was able to follow the instructions linked in the original post and jailbreak fine using Seas0nPass and now I'm trying to follow the SSH instructions. I'm logged in using WinSCP (v4.2.9) on Windows Vista and I'm connected via wired Ethernet from my PC through a router to my ATV2. Unfortunately I'm getting a timeout that is killing my session after the first command.

Initially WinSCP had its timeout period was set to 15 seconds. I've now set it as high as 120 seconds, but I'm still not having success. I've run "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" a few times now, because the timeout killed my previous sessions, so I may have made things worse by doing that. WinSCP starts my session in the /private/var directory and that may be my problem also.

Unfortunately, I didn't save the initial log, but here is what I'm getting now:

[Shell] apt-get update && apt-get upgrade ; echo "WinSCP: this is end-of-file:$?"

It times out after this.

It is probably something silly on my part. Should I try a different client or is there another option I should have set beforehand? Should I make the timeout much larger? Does it matter what directory I'm in when I run these commands?

ssh in and issue command directly, don't use WinSCP shell.

Thanks! I hadn't had to use ssh much prior to this point. There was a y/n prompt that it was hanging on. For other noobs like me, I downloaded putty from link on http://www.putty.org/ and I'm making progress again.

Thanks again!

Thanks for answering.

Just to clearify: I am running iTunes for Windows - no entry "AppleTV" was shown in the sidebar of my iTunes . I can't see a "Restore" button or whatever in my iTunes.
Btw I have reinstalled iTunes and have excetued SeasonPass again. ipsw is stored in "My Documents" Folder but, as mentioned, no further entry appear in iTunes.

Please see this screenshot

Does "AppleTV" entry appears only if APTV2 is connected via USB to the PC and in DFU mode?

It'll show in iTunes when it's connected, don't think it needs to be in DFU mode unless you want to specify an ipsw firmware file (rather than downloading the latest firmware via iTunes).

It should be under Devices when you connect, just like an iPhone or iPod will show up when you plug one in. If it doesn't then maybe there's an issue with your cable or version of iTunes (I assume you have the latest?). You shouldn't have the power connected to the atv2.

Thank you JD2157!

The point was to attach APTV2 without power connection to iTunes. Great!
Thanks again.

I looked everywhere and cannot find an answer to this question.

I cannot see the 16 bit audio option anywhere. I made sure i am on the newest nightly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's not in xbmc it's actually in the settings of the atv. I'm not running the latest build so I might be wrong Smile

16-bit audio is in ATV setting, not XMBC. You will need to update firmware to 4.2.2 (2203, 8F305) and then re-JB it.
