@arfoll/lordmozilla:

your efforts to get xbmc code running on meego (gstreamer instead of FFMPEG) are really something. I saw this interview: http://www.meegoexperts.com/2011/05/xbmc...francisco/

Which player did you use for playback? Mplayer?

Also, those Amino guys are very similar to the boxee guys. Hopefully they do a better job. I like the WebKit chromium HTML 5 browser that supports Flash 10.1!! (something nice to port into XBMC/Openelec). And I am curious to the QT-gui for smart tv.

It seems like the box will be hackable to run XBMC (if not sold via cable companies but direct). That at least, is a smart step compared to Boxee. If prices are between 125 -175 things can be interesting. (see: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/news-medi...king-group

I'm glad you like my work, hopefully there will be a blog post soon with many explanations.

mplayer is ffmpeg based, but I'm using my own python player (based on UMMS spec on meego), called madeo-uplayer. Code is here : https://github.com/arfoll/Madeo-MUMS-player

Amino are actually very different, they are one of the biggest IPTV STB vendors, and really don't do much of this media center stuff. As explained XBMC was really a demo UI and nothing more. Still they could have released the code.

They won't sell you the box. However wait for meego tv 1.2 release (hopefully soon), and hackable sodaville boxes should pop up. Anyways the boxee box isn't all that nice because the GPU is very slow (it's a CE4110 instead of CE4150), which means the powervr chip which is allready weak runs at half speed :-(

If you look up the Telecom Italia cubovision product (made by Amino), that is basically an Amino Freedom, and does not use XBMC. Consumer products does not mean they sell to consumers! STBs are generally considered CE (consumer elecronics).

You got me wrong, I'm not against any company profiting from FOSS projects. I'm against any company profiting from FOSS projects and not give anything in return, even the code or whatever, which by the way I think is what XBMC devs really expect, which I don't think is much to expect, but I know expecting entities to be decent is too much to ask now a days, even if you just use it for showcases/conferences or whatever.

About the Cubovision, I'm almost sure it doesn't use XBMC, can't be 100%, but they definitely still take inspiration and textures from XBMC skins (like separators)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9L3S1dMSHvM.

And what I'm trying to tell you is that the code on github.com/arfoll/xbmc is a usable (even comes with a dbus GStreamer player) version of that code... :rolleyes

That's the old cubovision box not the amino/intel one. (you can tell because of the SD card slot in front)

If taking inspiration was a problem XBMC would be in a whole load of trouble ;-)
