I've see several comments that PulseAudio doesn't see to play well with HDIM and multichannel passthru vs ALSA. I have 5.1 working on Live 10.1 with a workaround of setting the audio to optical/coax, but still have an issue where the system sounds disappear..

would unstalling PulseAudio fix that issue?

how is the safe way to uninstall?

any drawbacks?

I uninstalled Pulse in Lucid and the only things I can detect are that there are some entries in the system log that it couldn't load pulse audio and if I have XBMC minimized and try to load something else that uses audio like VLC it gives me an error and no sound until I unload XBMC.
