XBMC randomly freezes when playing 720p files
#1
Please help! I love XBMC and this is so annoying

To reproduce - open any 720p file. Video plays perfectly. Sometimes during the movie (could be after 2 mins, or after 30 mins) the image starts to stutter, than a few seconds afterwards turns black and xbmc freezes. I can't stop, or return to menu and I have to shut down the process and restart xbmc.

I tried:
* Updating the ati drivers
* trying one of the nightlies
* turning off all of the options in the playback menu (except dxva2 hardware accelration, otherwise video doesn't play smoothly)
to no avail... please advise!

System - Windows 7, 32-bit build 7600
XBMC version: Built on May 29 2011 (Git:20110529-3287e38, compiler 1600)
from the nightlies, though the exact same thing occurred when running Dharma 10.1

CPU: AMD Sempron 3200+
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5450
RAM 1.5 GB
Motherboard: GA-MA780G-UD3H
Sound - from the onboard MB card, through HDMI to my flat panel

video driver info:
Driver Packaging Version 8.85-110419a-118908C-ATI
Catalyst Version 11.5
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1152
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Class/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0002
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0833
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10750
AMD VISION Engine Control Center Version 2011.0419.2218.38209

XBMC Debug log of trying to open a file, then freezing after about 10 mins:

It is worth mentioning that I'm pretty sure this is not a hardware issue. These videos play just fine when I open them in GOM media player

All the errors appear to be coming from CDVDPlayerAudio. A problem with the sound driver?

looks more like a video driver/card problem in conjunction with our implementation
Code:
15:43:58 T:3232 M:879198208   DEBUG: CRenderSystemDX::PresentRenderImpl - Present failed. 88760874 - D3DERR_DEVICEHUNG (Hardware adapter reset by OS)

15:43:58 T:3232 M:878702592   DEBUG: D3DERR_DEVICELOST

Unfortunately no idea how to fix.

Just out of curiosity are you playing your movies from a share or are they local?

Video playback has been reported broken over at the MediaPortal forum with 11.5\11.6 drivers, so might be worthwhile reverting back to 11.4
