There are many DIY ambilight systems out there eg. (the best there is!) (http://www.ruuvipenkki.fi/foorumi/viewto...228&p=1483), but the problem is the application that calculates the RGB values on many areas from the screen: seems that I can not operate properly if XBMC is on FullScreen, needs to be windowed mode nor it copes with Win7's Aero.

? This seems to be VERY easy and simple application, and the best way is to embed this into XBMC, so that Screen reading and COM port sending is controlled by XBMC's process.. Sounds actually MUST-HAVE feature..

Imagine : Buy one of those Ambilight devices, attach it behind your Screen/TV.
For Music listeners easy visualization plugin targeted specially for ambilight devices would make the music come visually live like never before.. For Video watchers, no need to explain...

I believe there's already a boblight branch, and it's pretty easy to setup in xbmc live / linux anyway.

I too would love this feature integrated with xbmc but lack the dev skills to get the job done.

I'm not sure having it integrated is really necessary, I would imagine it would only be used by a VERY small subset of xbmc users, so doesn't really make sense to have it integrated.

Having a proper plugin on the other hand would be very cool.

SunWind is about to start selling the factory-manufactured PCBs of his design so building this is quite "easy" and cheap. PCB price is somewhere ~10€ +posting..
Components are between 30€ - 50€ + LedStrip.

Flashing the chip is also made quite easy easy, so this is actually do-able for the rest of us.

Boblight integrated to XBMC would be killer! It would also be nice to get a GUI to control all the parameters of the ambilight. Some sliders or something to adjust reaction speed, color mixing and other delays.

I guess it shouldn't be hard an update to write the settings from GUI to ATmega EEPROM, just a few modifications to source code... Bootloader could also be driven to the MCU, enabling it to be later programmed via USB, no AVR ISP needed.

Dealextreme LED-Strip is cheap but it's not the best you can get. It has much too powerful blue component so ambilight is always bluish. You can compensate this via boblight settings but color resolution suffers quite a bit. I personally recommend using quality 14,4W/m RGB LED strip.

Alright, got the HW now working.. Xbmc could now just support directly this..
DataFlow needs virtual USB-com port (FTD drivers are available)..

I've always wanted to build an ambilight setup, but it's been daunting to say the least. XBMC integration/add-on would make it awesome!
