I am curious if anyone knows the feasibility of bitstreaming HD audio via AudioEngine on the AppleTV? The AppleTV 2 from everything I can find appears to be HDMI 1.3 compliant, but I don't know if there is something fundamental within iOS that would prevent this from even being possible. If it could, it would make the AppleTV 2 and XBMC one hell of a powerful streamer.

There are AE builds currently being tested for iOS. I have had DTS-HD files playing (Whether or not my Onkyo is outputting this as DTS-HD I'm not sure as I'm only running 5.1 speaker setup at the moment.

True HD source file crashes XBMC-AE on the ATV2, currently.

But it is still a work in progress.

So, to answer your question, yes, I do believe it's possible. But it'll be up to the developers to give you any more info than that . I'm just a happy spectator.

Thanks Cranial. I guess we will just have to wait and see. I knew the plan on the PC was to allow HD audio bitstreaming thru AE, so I guess it remains to be seen on the ATV. Keeping my fingers crossed.
