Hello what are the steps to get xbmc to see my shares on my server. The server is on my wireless router then the router feeds to my switch. Thanks

Get a Router with multiple LAN-Ports, instead of using a switch.
The integrated DHCP-System is going to handle your machines in a proper way.
Furthermore, you can use windows 7's build tin home-networking interface.
It's pretty much self-describing.
Cheers

The router I have is the netgear wndr3700 all ports being used going to netgear 8 port gs108t smart switch. In windows 7 I can't map the drive. My dune player sees it fine, can't understand why windows 7 and xbmc don't see it?

Make sure your xbmc is configured to be in the same workgroup as your windows installation (WORKGROUP for example).
This is not a routing or switching problem...
