The ability to export all XBMC's library data as seperate .nfos is really handy, especially when you want to rebuild the database for whatever reason.
I have my music nicely organised, but I do not have a separate artist folder for artists who only appear on singles or compilations. This would be an unnecessary level of abstraction, especially when all the sorting is governed by tags anyway.
This means that for these artists, artist.nfo does not get placed in the right place.
It also means that when rebuilding library, it takes a loooong time to re-download info for every artist without locally stored info.
Would it not be possible for xbmc to use artistname.nfo (ie Michael_Jackson.nfo for Michael Jackson) instead of artist.nfo to overcome this problem?
