Hi,
I've been lurking here for a while and read a lot of HTPC topics. And after trying some of the available streamers i've decided to build my own HTPC. I've had a Popcorn Hour streamed everything but I hated the slow gui. And at the moment I have a ATV2, but that lacks the true power to play every format.
Now i've made a setup but currently it's total costs are 558 Euro's! and this is a little expensive for a HTPC. So I hope people here with the experience can advice me how to cut costs a little.
Requirements:
1. Power, I want to be future proof for a while so the HTPC must be capable of easily playing a 1080P (uncompressed) movie.
2. Running windows
3. No storage since I stream everything from a 6 TB TS-559 Pro II Turbo NAS (what a wonderfull device!)
4. Just video and sound trough HDMI (since I don't own a receiver yet or something)
5. IR for Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote
6. Off course an XBMC install
The Setup
CPU Intel Core I3-2100 3.1GHz ---> EUR 83
RAM Corsair*XMS CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 ---> EUR 30
GPU Asus*GeForce GT430 DC SILENT/DI 1GB ---> EUR 69
MOBO MSI H61M-E33 B3 ---> EUR 52
CASE Antec Fusion Remote ---> EUR 133
FAN Shuriken Rev. B ---> EUR 22
PSU Antec*Earthwatts EA-380D Green ---> EUR 42
HDD Corsair*SSD Nova Serie 2 60GB 2.5i 60GB ---> EUR 85
USB IR Flirc.tv ---> EUR 22
CASEFAN SilenX*IXP-74-14 Ixtrema Pro Fan , 120mm ---> EUR 20
Total ---> EUR 558
So how is it possible to cut down the costs a little, and keep around the same amount of power? Remember these prices are in euro's and not dollars
Regards
