hey all,

this is my first post and I'm new to xbmc on apple tv2. I just installed xbmc on my apple tv 2 following the guides by xctechs.info. I got a smb share from my mac all set up and showing up on the xmbc but whenever I click a video file (be it mp4 or mkv) on the atv2 in xmbc it just shows a play button in the lower left corner for a millisecond and nothing else happens. after clicking again I sometimes get a "playback failed - one or more items failed to play. check the log file for details". can anyone help me with that?

Without seeing the XBMC.log file I would guess it's a permissions error. What OS is on the computer sharing the files?

Ah, Mac OS X 10.7. 10.7's SMB server isn't compatible with XBMC right now. Apple made some changes. Easiest short term solution is FTP by doing this: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=106038

If you feel up to it you can try NFS which is generally a better protocol over all, but does require some set up: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=NFS...ac_OS_X.29

There are some other solutions floating around here as well. Personally I feel those two are the best. A lot of people are in the same boat right now since the 10.7 update.
