[NEW] iOS 4.3 Build 8F455 For ATV2 - THIS IS WHY IT'S CRASHING
#91
Sorry, I think I'm missing something. I can't figure out Davilla's instructions, how do I replace those commands? My xbmc crashed out of no where, and now everytime I open it up the screen goes black for about 5 seconds, and then it goes back to the atv home screen. I have tried many different things to fix this problem, which started out of no where today. I am on 4.2.1, and have updatebegone installed, and it is the latest (so is nito TV). I removed and reinstalled xbmc...all without any change. I also did this :

echo "127.0.0.1 appldnld.apple.com" >> /etc/hosts
echo "127.0.0.1 mesu.apple.com" >> /etc/hosts
echo "127.0.0.1 appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net" >> /etc/hosts

and this:
rm -r /Applications/XBMC.frappliance

and if I try to update nightly I get this:

Apple-TV:~ root# wget http://xbmc.hadm.net/latest_atv2.deb
--2011-09-06 18:26:18-- http://xbmc.hadm.net/latest_atv2.deb
Resolving xbmc.hadm.net... 173.236.196.130

HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found
2011-09-06 18:26:18 ERROR 404: Not Found.

Apple-TV:~ root# dpkg -i latest_atv2.deb
dpkg: error processing latest_atv2.deb (--install):

Errors were encountered while processing:
latest_atv2.deb
Apple-TV:~ root# rm latest_atv2.deb
rm: cannot remove `latest_atv2.deb': No such file or directory
Apple-TV:~ root#

Any ideas or help would be appreciated, I would be glad to provide you with any more information.

Vanna - read the updated Installation/FAQ:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=108720

The install instructions have changed and the source files are no longer located at hadm.net. I recommend installing the latest nightly - they've been stellar!

Thanks, I tried to install it from there and I got:

Not sure if I put the commands in wrong? I checked, and retried multiple times.

Start off like this.
wget http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/darwin...r-atv2.deb
You forgot to add the deb file at the end of the path in the wget command so you never downloaded it.

Come on people, let's start paying attention to what the commands do and stop this blind c/p'ing of commands and praying that they work.

In other works, if you do a command-line command and it comes back with 'error', STOP. Do not pass go, you are borked. Continuing to 'try' the rest is futile and stupid.

Sorry about that, oops I'm an idiot... I did it again the right way and I got no errors, but my xbmc is still crashing and not opening?

I gave up and did a re-jailbreak and did a fresh install...and it worked perfectly for about 10 minutes, and then it crashed and once again does not open up. I think it may be one of the add-on repositories that I added yesterday (and again today when I restored it) which I did not previously have installed since nothing else has changed...although I am making that up.

I ran Seas0npass on a 4.3 atv2, loaded the nightly from Sep-5 and it's working fine, except that I get a lot of buffering over ethernet or wifi. SD, 720P and 1080P content all buffers to the point that it is unwatchable. I'm using mysql db from my other xbmc libraries and that is working ok as well. I may try removing the mysql in advancedsettings and then loading some files in directly.

Ozymandyaz Wrote:Hi All - I've also updated to 4.3 (8F455) and then used Seas0npass to JB. I have installed nitoTV and XBMC (First 10.0-9 and then updated to a nightly for improved(?) MySQL handling)

A few notes (I'm sure they are covered in links but here they are all in one place):

Seas0nPass

EDIT - Decided to not to discuss any JB related issues per the warnings in another thread. See this link as it does a better job than I did anyway! http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=99315

After JB, nothing will have changed on the ATV2 visually, but SSH will be enabled. Use putty or some other SSH client to attach to the ATV2 and use "root" to log-in with "alpine" as the password.

Installing nitoTV (if you want it... And you do...)

apt-get install wget
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16129573/com.nito.deb
dpkg -i com.nito.deb
apt-get update
apt-get install com.nito.nitotv

After you install, use it to get UpdateBeGone and XBMC...

Installing XBMC (official 10.0-9)
Use NitoTV or...

apt-get install wget
wget -O- http://apt.awkwardtv.org/awkwardtv.pub | apt-key add -
echo "deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org/ stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
echo "deb http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2 ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list
apt-get update
apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2

To install a nightly:

Follow the instructions on Keith's post if you know what you are doing... BUT if you are upgrading (i.e. you have any version of XBMC already installed), you need to manually remove the /Applications/XBMC.frappliance folder as reported a few pages back (Thanks emkay!)

For MySQL:

It seems like right now it is necessary to allow the ATV2 to populate the MySQL database before anything else touches it. I could not get it to work if a database existed already and was already populated, so I just built the databases in MySQL and left them empty. Then the ATV2 would connect and format them and add tables as needed. Once the tables were there I could use a Windows nightly to do my scraping since it is much much faster. Now I have an ATV1 Crystalbuntu and windows nightly sharing my database with the ATV2 running a nightly.

Thanks for this

devta Wrote:Hi Guys,
I bought my AppleTV2 couple of weeks ago and accidently updated to firmware 4.3 but to my relief noticed the SeasOnPass jailbreak for 4.3. The whole jailbreaking process went fine without a single problem but I am having an issue since the day 1. I have installed IceFilms plugin. If I switch on AppleTV and try to stream anything from IceFilms for the first time, it display "Working....." msg at the bottom right corner of the screen and then start playing. But if I try to stream anything else again, it display "working...." msg for 2 seconds, then disappears and nothing happens. Does not matter if i watch any movie or TV show again, it just does not work without rebooting AppleTV.

Yep - thats about what the icefilms plugin seems to do for a few of us.
Works fine for some - does exactly what you describe for others. No one seems to have posted any solution to it. I looked through the code (I am not a programmer), but its passing the url for the megaupload file to a function called xbmc.player that presumably lives in an XBMC library. Cant tell what it thinks is going wrong but it just seems to fail....
