What advantage of compiling your own xbmc flavour
#1
At the moment, i have already successfully run xbmc standalone 32bit ubuntu on my ion box. No problem so far.

Well, I was interested to compile my own xbmc. Not sure it is most wise thing to do apart from getting some knowledge on how compilation and git would work.

But functional wise, would it make at much differences?

My future plan is to install a 64bit OS with 64bit xbmc.

I suppose there's some entertainment value in compiling your own build of XBMC, but on Ubuntu it's just a matter of following the README so it's not that great an achievement.

If you're happy with v10.1 there's no point in doing your own build, apart from for fun. If you want the latest development version that would be a reason for building it your self, but you can probably find nightly builds somewhere (mirrors.xbmc.org only has nightly builds for Windows and OSX).

The best reason for doing your own builds is that you want to join the development team and make XBMC a better product :-)
