HP Touchpad

Now that HP's venture in the tablet market is completely dead http://http://www.afterdawn.com/news/art...martphones their Touchpads might start popping up at firesale prices....was wondering if there was any way of running xbmc on these or if the hardware is good enough to play full HD?.

If nothing else, might be cool to pick one up to have a jukebox like touchpad on the wall for people to play around at parties & whatnot if it was cheap enough....wonder if there is any other software that could be used thats dedicated to just music?

This may help. At $99 this seems like an interesting option.

We want XBMC on WEBOS!!!

Lol, just kidding. But it would be cool, now that I. . .

just ordered 4 touchpads from HP last night. Best deal I ever got.

First I ordered 2 16GB for $90 each (shipped). Half an hour later I went back to order more, but the 16GB were sold out, so I ordered two 32GB for about $140 each.

Slickdeals really came through. Even though the price wasn't supposed to be lowered until 7am this morning, some slickdealer realized with an HP academy account, you could see the lowered prices. Even though it didn't work for me at first, clicking on a link to the product page from the slickdealer's post made the lowered price show up.

Apparently they are now sold out at most stores, if not all. Reports are that in rural areas, some wal-marts still have a few in stock.

Seems like black friday came early this year. And HP sold hundreds of thousands of touchpads if not millions. Also BestBuy is sending all of their stock (around 250k) back to HP, I don't know if those will be available later on HP's site or not.

I am really hoping that with this huge boost in sales and the rapid increase in number of users, more developers will be interested in the platform at least in the short run.

Worst case scenario, I got a decent e-reader/browser/e-mail client/media player with a capacitative touchscreen and a dual core processor at a crap resistive touch android tablet price.

I might even mount one of those on the wall and use it as a dedicated home automation controller (if I can figure out a good app to use for that, might even be web based I guess)

Just snagged one for $99 at Best Buy... figured the price was worth screwing around with.

Snagged 2 off Barnes and Noble's online store for $117 each after tax and shipping. Here's hoping they get android running on them.

The Kalemsoft media player is the best native webos option currently. Not free (5.99), but is fairly decent. Can play about anything I threw at it & can stream remotely from your local network long as you are somewhere with strong wifi. Not nearly as pretty as xbmc but functional if you want to watch your media from elsewhere.

Looks like there is a move afoot to port Android over to the touchpad. Might have some interesting possibilities if they do it.
