seriously?
no one in favor of ubuntu?
imo it has a better out of the box experience than win
on linux my remote works correctly just after plugging it in
in win play/pause and stuff always interacts with some programms in the background ... never knew how to fix it
driver installation in ubuntu is a snap
everything except for closed graphic-blobs is already in the kernel
and right after the installation a window pops up and offers you to install the graphic-drivers
xbmc works just the same as on win
and boot time ubuntu is way faster

-> i would go for ubuntu

For skin sounds, you probably need to create a .asoundrc file.

and have a read here:

couldn't get the network going at a fast enough speed without it being directly plugged into the modem so gave up. home plugs were very slow Sad

i've just installed it... and i've been prompted nothing of the sort for ANY drivers. my wireless doesn't work on ubuntu at all, i had to connect through ethernet and in general i'm just lost.

hm okay
ubuntu uses the net to load the drivers ... so no net no drivers
but if you now are online just start jockey to find the drivers
somewhere under system -> administration -> additional drivers

and what wireless hardware are you using?
i installed it on a bunch of laptops and never had an issue with wlan

I fixed the WLAN... but then i had no sound and decided to give up lol.

its a lot of hassle and I wish it worked out. I might try and install it alongside windows and see how it runs.

XBMC is still laggy on my windows machine the bitch!!

Sounds like you need to stick to an OS to run it on and just work out the issues rather than constantly jumping around.

Read some post from who had choppy GUI.that when they disabled DDS that their problems went away. Maybe try that.

haha wow so DDS solves my problem then creates a new one. Sad

I miss the luxury of playing it from my MBP.

I tried ubuntu but i could not get the sound to work. literally went through god knows how many internet searches. if you could help me solve that problem i'd gladly go for that cos i like the OS quite a bit... atleast the look of it.

It might solve your problem and don't know if it works on all OS.
I only use win7 so can't help you with other systems.
