I have run xbmc succesfully for a few years with no problems . But yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 with sp1 and installed the latest version of xbmc , the problem I have is that xbmc will no longer start up it just freezes on a black screen . Has any one any ideas ( cant live without my mediacentre?.

True, You can't live without this. Try running it in portable mode, edit desktop icon to run "...xbmc.exe -p". This will buildup all the settings to xbmc's runfolder...

Thanks I shall try as donned as I get home, seems I have the same issue as fth throwing same error message
