[AppleTV1] Crystal HD upgrade

A little bit of help required, have read through here and think my heads going to explode!
Currently have XBMC on my ATV1 and pretty happy with it- hoping to upgrade it with a Broadcom card soon so I can play some 720p and maybe 1080p stuff that I have.

I was reading that XBMC works a lot better if I dont have anything else on the atv- it is purely going to be for the XBMC and was wondering what the best way to install the Broadcom card with the latest version of XBMC on it would be- I'm assuming just patchstick it?

Thanks in advance!

Turn off the ATV1. Take it apart. Take out wifi card. Put in BCHD. Put it back together. Turn it on.

Do this: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=499440&postcount=1

To enable downloading of nightly XBMC builds (BLEEDING EDGE): http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=67078

In XBMC go to System/Settings -> Video -> Playback

and make sure "Allow hardware acceleration (CyrstalHD)" is on.

done.

many thanks- seems pretty straightforward enough Smile
do you think it would be doing a fresh install of everything, it sometimes runs a little slow (think it maybe due to putting other apps like boxee on it) or is there a simpler way of getting rid of all the stuff I dont want?

Simply having other things installed on it (like boxee) will not slow it down. They would have to be actively running at the same time XBMC was running for this to happen.

Thanks again for all your help! Will hopefully pick up the card next week and be running some HD-goodness soon!
