~50 movies not being added to the DB
#1
EDIT: After some testing, it doesn't seem to be related to dsplayer, as it happens with a normal 10.1 install. It also seems to be happening on 2 different computers, however they are both running windows 7 pro.

I just installed the newer dsplayer branch of XBMC. I have been using the old school version (pre dharma) for a while now with only a few problems (things like subtitles not working correctly). When I installed the new version I was able to get everything working, however there seems to be a problem with about 50 of the movies being seen by the automated scan. I never had a problem with them before so I was a bit curious why they are giving me problems with the newer version.

I know it's not an official build yet, but everything seems to be working pretty damn well otherwise. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to point me in the right direction.

Does the player have much to do with adding the movies into the DB? It seemed like an issue that wasn't specific to this build.

Dragon just for your information- they are not one in the same - DSCodec is an entirely different project.

DSPlayer is no longer under development, however a user has built a version of it using pre-eden master to give access to Direct Show codecs that obviously xbmc doesn't.

Something that was odd when scanning, it kept giving me an error saying it couldn't connect to the server and if I wanted to continue scanning. I thought this was a bit odd, but if you said yes it would just keep going. However it would pop up fairly frequently.

So I installed a different, older version of the DSplayer build, something much closer to 10.1. I still seem to get the error, so I'm currently testing it out on dharma and it seems like the same problem. From what I can tell it seems to be the same movies each time. I'm able to access and play the movies using xbmc (outside of the library), but they refuse to show up in the library.

Here is an example of the one of the problem movies:
Alexander Revisited (2004)/Alexander Revisited (2004) 1080p Bluray.mkv
Battlestar Galactica - Razor (2007)/Battlestar Galactica - Razor (2007) 1080p BluRay.mkv

Oddly enough, "Battlestar Galactica - The Plan (2009)/Battlestar Galactica - The Plan (2009) 1080p BluRay.mkv" seems to be working fine.

I don't see any trend between the naming scheme of the movies that aren't showing up, I'm starting to suspect is has to do with something that the scraper is pulling down from tmdb. Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: I just tried the newest nightly as well, seems to have the same trouble with the same movies.

It seems to be directly related to the tmdb scraper. The IMDB one picked up those movies with out issue.

As you sussed out already, it's a naming issue and not related to the DSPlayer branch. The vast majority of the time, when a move doesn't get picked up by the scraper, it's a naming issue.

You need to ensure the filename is the same as what is being used by your scraper / website of choice. The reason the IMDB scraper picked it up, I suspect, is IMDB uses a fuzzier search pattern.

The real names of those movies in your example should be Razor (2007) and Alexander (2004).

You must have been using IMDb scraper on your so called old school version next time it happens try going to TMDb and checking those missing titles actually exist on their site because I'm guessing a lot don't

Battlestar Galactica - Razor (2007) Doesn't exist on TMDb

Battlestar Galactica - The Plan (2009) Does exist

It doesn't find "Alexander Revisited (2004)" because that movie hasn't got the year added on TMDb it will find "Alexander Revisited" maybe you could go add the date stop it happening for others and maybe add the missing ones

Checking your log a lot of films that failed are due to having the wrong date on TMDb or other small differences or just don't exist, your movies are mostly named and dated correctly as displayed on IMDb

Both films exist on TMDb, though as you point out neither with the name quoted by the OP

http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/69315 and http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/64402, though its doubtful the Alexander one should exist as a seperate entry, its just another release of the existing movie - Alexander, which I believe isn't allowed.

To get movies to scrape with colons etc I just leave them out and everything scrapes OK.

Seems to be almost a free for all over there at the moment and there is some doubt whether the db will continue in its present form.

Hope not be a shame to lose that resource.

Your correct what's strange is it doesn't find "Battlestar Galactica - Razor" which is why I missed it because it contains a (-) even when its listed as a alternative name but it will find "Battlestar Galactica - The Plan"

It was just easier to rescan with IMDB for the last 50 rather than play around with renaming 50 movies. Tongue
